4th November 2012 To: Ms Susan J Hindley, FRSA The Principal, EThames Graduate School Dear Ms Hindley

From: Subiksha Krishniah (M.A. MSc Ed.)

I am excited to apply for the post of International Student Recruitment and Marketing Officer, in response to your advertisement on Jobs.ac.uk. EThames focus on academic excellence is palpable, and its network with other education providers holds particular appeal for me as an educationalist with experience in marketing in the private sector. As a Masters in Comparative and International Education, as Director of Studies in a UK FE institution, and as international student, I have an extensive knowledge of UK HE as well as specifically African education systems and the demand for international qualifications. As Director of Studies ESL in Cardiff, I have successfully negotiated student contracts and funding with embassies and key stakeholders for Middle Eastern and North African students. I led the team towards successful British Council accreditation, where my Directorship was reported as a point of excellence. I also developed and marketed courses to new students from different international markets, as mentioned, proving my initiative and ability to communicate with different audiences. I have helped students through the application process and taught in multicultural classrooms with students from across Europe, Asia, Africa and recently the United States. I have experience with admissions and student recruitment, both through this position and its links to the University of Glamorgan, as well as in the University of Wales where I worked as part of the Student Recruitment team to widen access to Higher Education from under-represented groups. I also led presentations, and organised residential schools and social and academic programmes. As a Junior Dean and Associate Tutor at Oxford, for three semesters for international students, I have experience of finance administration, budget handling. My role as Junior Dean enhanced my cultural sensitivity to student needs and a keen sense of the different perceptions of the UKs educational provision among target demographics. As a researcher, and having combined work with research through several years, I thrive on working towards deadlines and prioritizing efficiency. In my work in marketing at The Book People, I individually topped the sales incentive for the quarter. I also successfully increased funding as the Middle Common Room Treasurer, at Worcester College Oxford. As a previous international student myself, I have the advantage of insight into both sides of the process, am familiar with UKBA processes and already have knowledge of educational consultant operations. As a student in International Education, my areas of interest were specifically in sub-Saharan and East Africa, and I have a working knowledge of these markets.

In summary, I combine a Masters in international education, postgraduate qualifications, and experience at the management level in admissions and student recruitment in HE and private FE. I believe my professional experience demonstrates an ideal fit for this post. I look forward to hearing from you at the soonest.
Sincerely Subiksha Krishniah
