REGISTRATION INFORMATION

ENROLLMENT INFORMATION Grade level is determined by the students grade in Fall of 2013. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Classes will be offered subject to enrollment, and may be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment. Classes will accommodate 20-25 students. Requests for changes will be granted only if space permits. PAYMENT INFORMATION Tuition $125 for each class. A $50 deposit for each class due upon registration. Remaining balance is due May 13, 2013. REFUND POLICY Full refund less $25 processing fee if cancelled before May 20, 2013. Registration form must be accompanied by a deposit, full payment due May 20, 2013. Registration deadline May 20, 2013. Full refund will only be made for classes cancelled by FGUS after May 30, 2013. A partial refund of 50% will be made if requested prior to May 29, 2013. No refund will be granted after May 30, 2013, except for verified medical emergencies. TO ENSURE ENROLLMENT All forms, including payment, must be COMPLETE. Please make sure all emergency information is current and included. Confirmation notices will be mailed home prior to the beginning of summer school as classes are confirmed. Make checks payable to FGUS. All fees must accompany registration forms. Returned checks are subject to a $25 fee. SEWING UP SOME STUFF! ($65 + $20 MATERIAL FEE) Students will be taught the basics of threading and using a sewing machine. They will also complete a variety of sewing projects including hair scrunches, drawstring bags, pillowcases, pajama bottoms, and possibly a skirt. GRADES 56 INSTRUCTOR: LISA WILLIAMS-LINTHICUM OFFERED SESSIONS 1 & 2 (BLOCKS A & D) [4 DAYS ONLY] SESSION 1: BLOCK A | 6/03 6/06 [OR] 6/10 6/13 SESSION 2: BLOCK D | 6/17 6/20 [OR] 6/24 6/27 READ-WRITE-PUBLISH Students will select a novel as a group and write newspaper articles to go with the events of the story using Microsoft Publisher or Powerpoint. GRADES 45 INSTRUCTOR: LISA WILLIAMS-LINTHICUM OFFERED SESSIONS 1 & 2 (BLOCKS B & C) MAKING MATH FUN AND GAMES Help your child stay on top in math. This math course will help students retain and enhance their math skills through the use of games. Games will provide strategies to aid your child develop a cleaner understanding of math operations. It will reinforce skills with exciting hands-on techniques. INSTRUCTOR: RUTHIE FAGERSTROM OFFERED SESSIONS 1 & 2 (BLOCKS A & C) BLOCK A | GRADES 1 3 BLOCK C | GRADES 3 5 MATH BOOSTER ($5 MATERIAL FEE) This math course is designed to give students an opportunity to reconnect with math. Parents and teachers will be able to work collaboratively to express areas in which they would like to have more teaching or training for their students. HOW TO REGISTER
Complete a separate registration form along with a $50 deposit for each class student is enrolling. Make check payable to FGUS. Mail or drop off deposit/payment to: FGUS c/o Glendora Unified School District ATTN: Educational Services/Summer Enrichment 500 N. Loraine Ave. Glendora, CA 91741 Non GUSD students must provide proof of immunization, or provide the name and phone number of the present school for immunization compliance. Final payment for each class must be received no later than May 20, 2013. Confirmation that your student has been enrolled in a class will come in our May mailing. We will ONLY contact you prior to this if there is a conflict with the classes in which you have indicated on registration.

FUN WITH PHONICS AND MORE Focuses on incoming first graders. The class would be designed to enrich phonics and phonic awareness skills as well as practicing story comprehension. The program would help to solidify skills learned in kindergarten such as phoneme isolation, phoneme blending, phoneme substitution, phoneme counting and use of multiletter phonograms and digraphs. Stories will be taught with games, crafts and music. Techniques will be used from the National California Kindergarten Conference. GRADE 1 INSTRUCTOR: STACY RYAN OFFERED SESSIONS 1 & 2 (BLOCKS A & C) KEYBOARDING & TECH TOOLS FOR PUBLISHING The following computer skills will be taught and practiced: Typing: Research indicates that typing is the 3rd best way to improve writing skills in students. Students will record and graph progress made throughout the typing class. Word Processing: formatting, keyboard shortcuts, columns, tables, inserting graphics, etc. PowerPoint Presentation: layout, animations, linking to outside sources, etc. Puzzle Making: crosswords, work searches, Wordles, vocabulary matching, etc. INSTRUCTOR: GWEN HAUK OFFERED SESSIONS 1 & 2 (BLOCKS A D) BLOCK A | GRADES 3 6 BLOCK B | GRADES 6 8 BLOCK C | GRADES 6 8 BLOCK D | GRADES 3 5 GETTING PROFICIENT WITH MICROSOFT OFFICE Using Word, learn to enhance your documents with tables, charts, diagrams, graphics, headers, footers and columns. With Excel, you will learn to go beyond the basics to create worksheets, enter formulas in the cells, automatic summation, and

formatting the worksheets with the many other features that Excel has to offer. Students will learn to move beyond the basic tools of PowerPoint to create presentations with sound and animation that impress their audience. HOORAY FOR CLAY ($50 MATERIAL FEE) What can you make with a lump of clay? So many wonderful, imaginative things! Find out as you work in our pottery studio and learn clay handbuilding techniques, including pinch, coil, and slab. Explore form, texture, and design. Creative projects include pots, fantasy animals, jewelry, zany cool creatures, and ideas from your imagination. The goal and objective is to allow students to use the creative side of their brain and introduce them to the arts. (Some projects subject to change).
