Concept: Below are some of the most recent developments related to reproductive health in our society. Your job will be to provide an analysis of these developments. As we discussed in the beginning of the unit sex ed is a values driven topic. These issues are inherently controversial themselves because although there are facts that may help you understand them ultimately you see these facts through the prism of your own perception (values, morals, upbringing, etc.). The sources listed are just a starting point, remember that any information may be biased and it is your job as an educated consumer to carefully analyze information for validity, reliability, and bias. Goal: Provide an analysis of the recent developments in reproductive health demonstrating an understanding of content specific information necessary to understand each issue (ie. What strains are protected against in the HPV vaccine, approved locations for the Safe Haven law). Topic 1: The HPV Vaccine Debate

Basic Overview: HPV is a sexually transmitted disease that is very common. There are more than 40 types of HPV. HPV is passed on through genital contact, most often during vaginal and anal sex. Gardasil is a vacation that helps against this disease.

Does this promote promiscuity or should we take advantage of something that could potentially help us? It does give reliable sources for people who are sexually active to fall on but causes that person to not take responsibility for their poor choices. Even though it takes the responsibility out of the persons hands it still is good to have because it allows help and a source of reliance for people.

Mechanism of action-how it works: The sperm takes a few days to reach the egg so, just like daily birth control pills, the hormones keeps the egg from being able to attach to the wall, keeps eggs from releasing (stops ovulation), thickens mucus to hinder the sperms swimming ability, and makes the uterine lining inhospitable to a fertilized egg

Yes it does, but it also gives you fall back plan on and it allows a chance of help.

In your opinion do these statistics warrant public educations involvement? What does a schools condom availability program look like? Who gets condoms, where, when and how? The students get the condoms, anytime of the day, most likely a guidance counselors office and it is confidential.

So the big question is how would condom availability affect the student body? Does it promote unhealthy behavior or are you providing a healthy outlet for those that will do it anywaysif so is it even a schools place to get involved ? I think the school

should be involved with this because it allows the students to be safe and it would happen any way but with this program it allows safety.
