Abdullah ibn Umar This companion was knowledgeable and ascetic. He became Muslim in Makkah whilst a small boy and participated in the battle of al Khandaq. He died in 73AH. He spent eight years memorising surah Al Baqarah. Abdullah ibn Abbs ibn al Muttalib He was known as tarjumn al Quran due to his knowledge. The Prophet made dua for Allh to grant ibn Abbs understanding of the religion (i.e. fiqh) and understanding of the interpretation of the Qurn. Ibn Abbs stated that I had a tongue that would always ask questions and a heart that was always attentive as an explanation for his extensive knowledge. He was born 3 years before the Hijrah and passed away in Tif in 67AH. He was less than 15 years old when the Prophet passed away Abdullah ibn Masd The Prophet stated that whoever wanted to learn the Qurn as it was revealed they should learn the Qurn from Abdullh ibn Masd. Ab Bakr and Umar rush to Abdullh ibn Masd to give him these glad tidings but when Umar approached he realised that Abu Bakr had preceded him. Abdullah ibn Zaid ibn sim This companion helped kill Musailama al Khadb along with al Wahshi at the battle of Yammamah. He was killed on the day of Al Harrah in 63AH. Ab Hurayrah This kunya means father of kittens due to love of kittens. There are over 30 opinions as to what is actual name was, due to the distinction he achieved under his kunya. The strongest opinion is that his name was Abdur- Rahman ibn Sakhr ad Dausi. He became a Muslim in the year of Khaibar (7AH) and stayed with the Prophet until the Prophets death. He was a mufti under Umar and the governor of Madnah under Marwn ibn al Hkim. He died in 59AH and is buried in al Baq. Ab Hurayrah narrated the most ahadth and over 800 people narrated from him. He has therefore been the target for orientalists who wish to invalidate a large body of the ahadith. Ab Qatda He was the Prophets horseman and fought in Uhud and that which followed. His real name was Al Hrith bin Ribi al Ansari and he died in 54AH. Ab Sad al Khudri His real name was Sad ibn Malik ibn Sinn al Khazraji al Ansri and he was a companion who fought in over 12 battles with the Prophet . He died in 74AH at the age of 86 years. Ab Salama His name was Abdullah bin Abdul Asad al Makhzumi al Qurashi and he was the son of the paternal aunt of the Prophet . He was also his brother in suckling along with Hamza (through Thuwaiba, the freed slave of Abu Lahab). He migrated to Abyssinia along with his 2

wife Umm Salama. He fought at Badr and at Uhud, later dying from his wounds from the later in 4AH. Ab Talha This companion was the husband of Umm Sulaim (the mother of Anas ibn Malik). His converting to Islm was his dowry to her. His real name was Zaid bin Sahl bin al Aswad bin Harm al Ansari an Najri. He attended Aqaba, and fought at Uhud and Hunain, and died in 34AH or 51AH. Ab Tufail He was the last companion of the Prophet to pass away when he died in the year 110AH. This was the fulfilment of the prophecy of the Prophet who stated: Once the Prophet led us in the ish prayer during the last days of his life and after finishing it he said: Do you realise (the importance of) this night? Nobody present on the surface of the earth tonight will be living after the completion of one hundred years from this night Ibn Umar; Agreed upon: Bukhri 116 and Muslim [6479] 217 (2537). Anas ibn Malik Umm SuIaim (his mother) brought him to the Prophet in Madnah at 10 years old to be in his service; the Prophet made three dua for him: i. ii. To increase his wealth (he harvested twice a year) To increase his progeny (he had over 100 of his own children)

iii. To enter him to Paradise (he said I am waiting for the last dua to come true) He was also known as Ab Hamza and was a Khazraji. He died at the age of 99 or 103 in approximately the year 91-93AH. Asma bint Abi Bakr

She was the daughter of Ab Bakr , the mother of Abdullah ibn Zubair , and the elder sister of Aishah. She lived until she was over a hundred years old and never lost a tooth or suffered from senility. Asm bint Umais

She was married in succession to Jafr ibn Abi Talib , who was martyred at the battle of Mutah (and bore him Abdullah ibn Jafr), Ab Bakr (and bore him Muhammad ibn Ab Bakr), and Ali ibn Abi Talib (and bore him Yahya). She would interpret dreams. Bill He was from amongst the first Muslims and had been a slave purchased by Ab Bakr who then set him free. He had been promised paradise, from the hadith where the Prophet informed him that he heard his steps in paradise.

She was the youngest of the daughters of the Prophet and married Ali in 2AH. She passed away 6 months after the death of the Prophet in 11AH. Jafar bin Abi Talib He was Alis older brother by 10 years and died as commander at the battle of Mutah in 8AH. He had been married to Asm bint Umais. He had originally migrated to Abyssinia but returned during the conquest of Khaibar. During Mutah his two hands were cut off but he continued to hold the standard with the two stumps. He was termed Jafar the flier due to it being reported by the Prophet that he had been given two wings in return and was flying around Paradise. Hassan bin Ali Grandson of the Prophet who was very wealthy and handsome; he would marry and divorce often. His father Ali would warn the people of Kufa not to marry their daughters to Hassan , but they continued to do so due to the prospect of a child being born in their family which would be from ahlul bayt. Hakim bin Hizm He was born within the Kaba, and lived 60 years before Islm and 60 years after Islm Hudhaifa bin al Yamm This companion kept the secrets of the Prophet regarding the identity of the munfiq n living in al Madnah. Umar wouldnt pray the janazah prayer over anyone who Hudhaifa did not because of this. Ibn Umm Maktm Amr or Abdullah bin Qais al Qurashi Al miri was the blind man mentioned in surah Abasa (80:1-42) where the Prophet was busy preaching to a delegation from Quraish. He made hijra and was made amir of Madnah 13 times leading the people in prayers. He was martyred at Qadisiyah whilst holding the Muslim standard. He was attributed to his mother. Maimnah

The last wife of the Prophet ; she asked Jbir to propose on her behalf and the Prophet accepted. She was originally called Barra (extremely pious) and the Prophet changed it as it was a name that implied that she was giving herself too much tazkiyyah or attributing such a high quality to herself. She passed away on her return from Umrah/Hajj at Sarif which is where she had originally consummated her marriage to the Prophet .

Mudh ibn Jabal He was a scholar amongst the companions and will be the leader of the scholars on the Day of Resurrection. The Prophet sent him to Yemen as a governor in 10AH just prior to his going out on the farewell Hajj, telling him that when he returns he may not find him but might find his grave instead. He was amongst the youth of the Ansar. Mughira bin Shuba He became a muslim in the year of khandaq and died at Kufa in 50AH. He was reported to have had 80 wives over his lifetime. He was reported to have said He who has one wife is ill when she is ill and is menstruating when she is menstruating, and he who has two wives is as is he is between two raging fires, but he who has four wives has the coolness of his eyes. Muhammad ibn Ab Bakr He was born to Asm bint Umais at the start of the hajj of the Prophet in 10AH, and was brought up in the household of Al after his father passed away and his mother had married Al. It is claimed that he had a role in the assassination of Uthmn . Rabia bin Kab al Aslami Rabia was one of the ahl sufa and he used to serve the Prophet . Sahl bin Sad This companions name had originally been hazn meaning sadness, but the Prophet advised him to change his name to sahl meaning ease. Salman al Farisi He has a long biography of how he travelled to Madnah and accepted Islm, and how he advised the building of the trench during the battle of al Khandaq. Sauda

This was one of the wives of the Prophet whom he married after his wife Khadijah passed away. She was quite old when she was married and so, fearful of divorce, she voluntarily forwent her turn amongst the wives of the Prophet in favour of Aishah. Surqa bin Mlik This companion was a bounty hunter who heard about the 100 camel ransom for the Prophet and for Ab Bakr whilst they were making hijrah; he covered the fact that two men were spotted and went to find them himself. After not being able to approach the Prophet , a letter of safety was written for him and he eventually became Muslim. Umm Salamah

She was of the first group to make hijrah to Abyssinia and her real name was Hind bint Abu Umaiya. She was very close to her husband Abu Salama and when he died the Prophet taught her the dua Grant me better than this musbah. She later married the Prophet a short time later in Shawwal 4AH.

Before they married she told the Prophet three things i. ii. She is extremely jealous (the Prophet made dua to remove it) She is old ( to which the Prophet said I am older than you)

iii. She has many children (the Prophet said They are mine as well) She died in 59AH or 62AH at the age of 84. Umm Atiya

Her real name was Nusaiba bint Kb or bint al Hrith al Ansariya; she was a prominent sahabiya and used to nurse the wounded in battles and had fought at Uhud. She witnessed and perfected the washing of the body of the daughter of the Prophet and her hadith on this topic is considered to be the basic reference. Umm Sulaim (Ar Rumais bint Milhn)

She was a companion who was married to Ab Talha and was mother to Ans Ibn Malik (from her previous marriage to Malik bin an Nasr who moved to Shm as a non-muslim) and Abu Umair (the young boy with the bird whom the Prophet met and gave a kunya). The marriage of Umm Sulaim and Abu Talha was put in place with a dowry that Abu Talha become muslim. Their child had died but in anticipation of her husbands return that evening, she prepared herself for him and fed him before telling him the bad news. She did so by first drawing his attention to the poor manners someone would have if they were unhappy about returning something that was the property of another. The Prophet made dua for the couple after hearing of this event and it transpired that the couple had conceived on that night. She died during the caliphate of Uthmn . Umm Waraqa

This lady was referred to as a shahida by the Prophet during his lifetime, as some time after his death she was martyred at the hand of a male and female slave whom she owned. Uthmn ibn Affn The third of the khilfa rshidn, he married in succession Ruqaiyah and Umm Kulthm, both of whom were daughters of the Prophet and for this reason he was known as Dhn Nrain (the possessor of the two lights). He was martyred in al Madnah in 35AH.
