MEEM 3700 Mechanical Vibrations Fall 2002 MWF 1-2

Instructor: Josh Loukus, 926 MEEM, 487-3374, jeloukus@mtu.edu, Ofce Hours: MWF 8-11

Course learning objectives: Students who successfully complete this course will have a good understanding of the dynamic behavior of single degree of freedom systems. They will have studied free and forced response of these system. Students will be able to design simple vibration isolation systems. They will understand the concepts of natural frequencies and mode shapes and the signicance in the solution of multiple degree of freedom problems. Students will also have an introduction to the use of Laplace Transforms as a solution to differential equations of motion. Textbook: Kelly S.G., Fundamentals of Mechanical vibrations, 2nd addition, McGraw-Hill Grading: Homework/Quizzes 20% Exams (3) 20% Final* 20% *Final can be double counted to replace one of your exam scores. It will then carry 40% of your grade. Table 1: Course Outline Week 1 Topics Introduction to dynamic systems. Review of differential equations. Harmonic Motion. Modeling of dynamic systems.
