Objective:

By successfully winning the Hendricks County Sheriff election, I hope to accomplish three things. The first is to help the Hendricks County Sheriffs Department be fiscally responsible to the tax payers yet provide the best service to the citizens of Hendricks County. The second is to make the Hendricks County Sheriffs Department a nationally recognized department because of outstanding training, service and individual leadership development. By becoming Sheriff I serve not only the community but my deputies. I will strive to always do the right thing, at the right time, in the right way, for the right reason. Finally, by doing all this I hope to create a community partnership to fight crime and make this a safer place for our families. Over the last twenty plus years in Law Enforcement and the U.S. Military, I Officer Ty Van Wagner, have accomplished many things to assist me in my growth towards my ability and knowledge to lead. I started with college and my enlistment in the U.S. Army Reserve to become a military police officer, working towards my final position as a Sergeant and squad leader assisting in dignitary protection, prisoner handling and containment. I then joined the Plainfield Police Department in 1992 and became a SWAT member and Canine Officer during my nine years with them before joining Indianapolis Police Department in 2002. During my eleven years with IPD/IMPD I became an Instructor and Field Training Officer as well as took a position at the Training Academy so that I could help officers learn policing, become more professional, and be able to lead. Furthermore, I graduated from the IMPD Leadership Academy in 2011 which I will use, along with my twenty years of service, to define my role as a leader. Finally, I am working towards finishing my degree from Oakland City University in November of 2014. I will be the only candidate with a degree in Criminal Justice.
