3.0 BRIEF RATIONALE FOR SELECTION OF KITS

I have come out with these kits due to several reasons. Firstly, these two kits are formed with reference of Year 1 KSSR syllabus. The song is related to Unit 1 which Sound Around Us and the poem has connection with Unit 20 which is My Pet. For the song, I have come out with own lyrics but retained the tune of The Wheels on The Bus. This will make the pupils to sings the song as the tune is quite familiar to them. Besides, for the poem, I have come out with my own lines. Secondly, these two kits use simple and comprehensible language. This will make pupils to grasp the content of lesson and meaning of words used easily. This is because meaningful learning will only occurs if pupils were able to understand the content of the lessons. The song and poem also uses simple words and the sentence is neither too long nor too short. This will make pupils to go through the song and poem easily with guidance. The kits also in accordance with pupils proficiency level which is Year 1 with intermediate pupils. Moreover, I also come out with these kits because I want pupils to be interested and enjoy the lesson .As I go through the year I KSSR Text Book, I had come across of these two topics and found them interesting. The content of the topic is interesting as it deals with animals sound around pupil and also the pets. As we know, young children are very curious about something. Therefore, through this song, I can teach them to identify and discover the animals sound around them. It will provide them information animals and their respective sounds. This eventually can increase their curiosity to discover more animals and their respective sound around them. I also retained the tune of The Wheels on The Bus because the tune very just nice to the lines that I had created. The tune is also very catchy as it can make pupils to enjoy their lesson. For the poem, I have chosen to describe about cat because I realized that cats are the most favourite pets among pupils nowadays. This is because it is cute, furry, and tame. Therefore, to get pupils attention and focus, I have come out a poem describing about cat. In conclusion, I would like to stress that my selection of these kits will definitely made the lesson happening and gives comprehensible input to the most pupils. I also learnt that we need to consider many aspects before start to build a kit for our lesson. This is because, the failure to do so, will make the content of the lesson cannot be reached by pupils and lesson carried out wont be successful. This will indirectly make the whole lesson goes haywire.

8.0 PEER OBSERVATION CHECKLIST

PART 3: REFLECTION

INDIVIDUAL REFLECTION After finished building the kits, I came into realization that every teacher must apply pedagogical principles whenever they are going to carry out teaching and learning activities in classroom. Firstly, I have learnt the importance of proficiency level. The song chosen must be in accordance with the pupils proficiency level .There are three types of pupils levels. There are advanced pupils, intermediate and also weak pupils. Therefore, we must always prepare activities which are suited with our pupils level. By being aware of that, we can conduct our teachings well and pupils can also grasp the content well. From what I experienced, if we never focus on this aspect, then most probably, our objectives of the lesson cannot be achieved. We must carry out our activities with regards of our pupils age also. Besides, by learning songs, pupils can get to know parts of a culture. Through song, pupils can satisfy their natural curiosity about everything new. For example, when they learn about song about Malay culture, they can learn about Malay culture more and thus their curiosity about that culture can be solved. Being familiar with songs in a second language, pupils feel closer to the other culture and its language. Moreover, in order to teach song, I have also learnt the importance of content. The content of the learning material should be comprehensible to pupils. For example in song context, the language and vocabulary used should also be simple and clear. It will make pupils to comprehend the song easily. Moreover, the meanings and the song should also be easy to remember. This is very important to help teacher to achieve their aimed objectives. In addition, I also realized that the presentation of song must be in an interesting way to attract pupils and get their attention from the beginning of the lessons too. To make it interesting, we can include visuals for example when teaching song about animals, we can insert the pictures of animals to triggers attention from the pupils. This will make them to be more focused. Besides, usages of gestures when teaching song are also important. By including gestures, pupils will be excited to learn and able to comprehend the content of the song better.

Moreover we should not only limit our teaching resources to one source only. We should vary our teaching materials and our presentation styles also. For example, when we

teach song, we should not only come out with the lyrics on the board, but can also include the music in power point slide and can utilize the picture cards and words cards to show the images found in the song. We must also perform the actions and sing the songs first. This is very important as pupils will follow our style when they sing, so we should also be a good role model when lead in the singing activities. Moral values should also be implemented after teaching a song. For example, when pupils are exposed to recycling song, we can instill the value of keeping the environment clean besides warning them about the bad implication that we might face if never practice recycling. This will make them aware of the values taught in the song and start to practice it anywhere. In addition, I also noticed many new-found perspectives on teachings from the experience of moving away from the students desk to teachers desk. I learnt that teachers job is just not about teaching only. Teachers have to consider all the aspects and be prepared mentally and physically before he or she enters the classroom. Teachers have to prepare their teaching thoroughly whenever enter the class to teach. We cant just teach by all of a sudden. Planning and time management is very important for teachers. Besides teaching, a teacher is a second parent to pupils too. They are responsible in moulding pupils behavior in the classroom and outside the classroom as well.
