23dBm (200mW) 1800 and 1900MHz 20dBm (100mW) 850 and 900MHz coverage up to hundreds of metres inside a building

Flexible voice
Dynamic AMR Full-rate and half-rate Use of half rate AMR can double voice capacity of nanoBTS to 14 simultaneous voice calls

The worlds most deployed picocell

Single CAT5 Ethernet connection
Carries both data and power over Ethernet Enables rapid and low cost installation Uses existing IP infrastructure for backhaul

E-GPRS functionality
Full GPRS and E-GPRS support up to MCS9 Demonstrated throughput of over 200kbit/sec (4-slot mobile) Fully backward compatible with GPRS handsets

Simple IP Configuration
BTS only requires 2 config items All parameters downloaded from the BSC

Efficient network planning through Network Listen feature

nanoGSM Circuit BSC

Base Station Controller for all variants of nanoBTS

Quick to deploy No ongoing OPEX costs Requires customer co-operation Outside operator control

Dedicated DSL line

Within operator control Takes time to install Ongoing cost

Other types of IP connections

Wimax Wifi HSxPA Satellite

Bandwidth Requirements
All voice channels in use <150kbps Heavy EDGE data use could increase to 300kbps With full half rate AMR 210kbps

DAS versus distributed nanoBTS

100m

-Distributed Capacity -Macro offload -No feeder runs -No Combiner loss -23dBm at AE point -Resilience via IP -Hardware resilience -Low backhaul costs -Simple installation/design -Fully Alarmed/Performance managed

Case study: a high rise building

SFR France 8 floors of this building are rented by a bank
(19th floor to 26th)

Cost of DAS estimated at over $150,000

Case study: a high rise building

2BTS per floor Negates Landlord permission issues Highly resilient design Time to revenue was less than half the estimated would have taken to deploy the DAS system

Operator Retail Stores

Excellent signal essential for demonstrations
Location inside shopping mall may have poor signal Shopping centre owner seeks to charge for rights to cover Coverage may be worse at rear of store Need high data performance for demonstrations Existing IP connection for point of sale terminals Makes use of exiting IP connection No involvement from shopping mall owners Output power can give coverage in mall Capacity can be reserved for data channels 4 time slots for EDGE can give 164k throughput

Picocells can provide coverage

Underground car parks

GSM signal does not penetrate underground
Coverage may be required for safety or network quality concerns Low GSM traffic area Access for donor antenna may be limited Difficulty in routing thick coax cables for passive system

Requires very cost effective solution

Picocells only require Ethernet cabling No need for dedicated equipment room

Service for VIPs

Providing VIP coverage can be difficult
Large properties Low density of buildings Do not want masts in their area

Require good coverage

Personal and staff use Will not tolerate blocking Need dedicated capacity

nanoBTS is a good solution

Reuse existing backhaul Small and discrete Provides capacity

Using nanoBTS for temporary coverage

One-off events that demand extra capacity are expensive Traditional approach: CoW (cellular on wheels)
Each deployment may cost many tens of thousands of dollars

Picocells
Highly targeted capacity & coverage Small & easy to deploy Can be used far from mains power (PoE)

Example
Picocells in trees for music festivals Picocells were used in the press office at the 2009 Monaco Grand Prix

Integrating with an existing DAS

Major Hospital in Florida
Newly Constructed Hospital Poor Macro coverage This hospital made a decision to ensure that patients and visitors to the hospital have coverage in all areas of the hospital to include patient rooms

Neutral hosted system

The hospital owns the DAS All carriers were allowed to connect Most opted for repeaters

Integrating with an existing DAS

Customer/Employee homes
Pico cell coverage where planning permission is difficult
Low cost (rent free) via employee approval or contract incentive Quick to install

Low cost/free transmission

Case study Copenhagen Railway station

Problems seen on 2 macro cells Installed 2TRX nanoBTS
On Telia owned store on concourse USed telia backhaul

nanoBTSs carried 7 Erlangs of traffic

Steady traffic load throughout day No change in traffic on macro

Case Study Hotel

Large Building
Rural located Sturdy construction Too large to consider full Uplift

High revenue/perception potential

Influential guests Hosts many international golf tournements Lots of roaming customers for nearby Liverpool/Manchester Football clubs

Case Study Hotel

Decision to target key areas
Bar Conference Suite Reception

Low cost/Fast delivery via Picocell

10 days. Go ahead - delivery Single BTS Taking 1000 calls per week

Out of town business parks

Out of town sites with zero or marginal coverage
May be a long distance from nearest macro BTS Outdoor coverage may be sufficient but building construction can block RF signal New macro deployment uneconomic, or not possible quickly Customers will not take service if their phone does not work where they do

Picocell provides coverage direct to the customer

Direct coverage of customers location Makes use of existing IP infrastructure High quality coverage inside building

OMC-R
The OMCR manages the whole network from one interface. Server
connects to all BSCs in the network Supports Active / Standby configuration

Clients
connect to the server in order to work with the management information The client has three main functional areas:
Fault Management Configuration Management Performance Management

Interfaces
The BSC exposes a CORBA based management interface to the OMC-R server Management traffic is communicated over an IP network connection to the OMC-R server SNMP interface for the umbrella Fault Management System. PM counters fully exportable to third party operator systems.

Fault Management
Alarm management
Captures alarms from BTS and BSC Can be integrated with existing alarm system Configurable alerts and alarm grouping Alarm Filtering Transaction Journal

Configuration Management
Configuration Management
Remote provisioning of network configuration Multiple BSS configured simultaneously Copy Site for quick site creation BSC OMC-R File Transfer

Performance Management
Performance Management
Performance Management aggregation Quick look KPI visualised as graph Export individual KPI as CSV file PM filtering by time and BSS Export raw PM data as a CSV file

Summary
ip,access are the worlds leading small cell provider

The ip.access solutions brings a low cost alternative to DAS/Micro BTS installations. All our products use IP for backhaul which brings huge OPEX and CAPEX savings.
In-building coverage issues can be delivered in days rather than weeks/months for a fraction of the cost.
