WARANGAL DISTRICT 1. Rock Art Site (Pandavula gutta), Ravulapalli : Estd. Cost. Rs. 25.

Rock paintings of Mesolithic times have been reported in the hillocks locally known as Pandavula Gutta, located near Ravulapalli, 6 kms. from Regonda, the Mandal Head Quarters in Warangal District (55 kms. from Warangal).

The figures depicted in the paintings are of peacocks, lizards, tiger, frogs, fishes, deer, languor and geometrical designs and impressions of Palm are drawn in green, red, yellow and white pigment colours. Besides these rock paintings, inscriptions of Rastrakutan times and fresco paintings of late medieval period have also been reported from these hillocks.

2. Ursu Gutta, Ursu-Karimabad : The Ursu hill is about 1 km. from Ursu-Karimabad and 4kms. from Warangal. The inscriptions of Kakatiyan times are engraved on a hillock near Ursu Village known as Ursu Gutta. The inscriptions are in Sanskrit language. One of the inscriptions is in Nagari script and the other is in Telugu Characters of the 14th C. A.D.

The first one is incomplete and damaged in Nagari script. It is a portion of Kavya written by poet Narasimha Rishi son of Visveswara Pandita, the Rajaguru of Kakati Rudrama Devi, as known by the colophon at the end of the first canto. It mentions the marriage of the couple. The second inscription is another kavya written by the same Narasimha. This inscription is 3 pannels. The first line of the first panel is in Nagari script and the rest is written in telugu script. It is a unique record describing the love marrage of Sidha couple. It deals the sringara aspect like Meghasandesha Kavya.

3. Angadi Veeranna Gudi, Jain Temple, Biranpally :

A jain temple constructed during the times of Chalukyas of Kalyani is located in the Bairanpalli village. This temple is locally known as Angadi Veeranna Gudi. The Temple looks like a flat roofed one. The Temple faces east and consists of Garbhagruha, Antarala, Mukha mantapa and ardha mandapa. Two inscriptions of Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya (A.D. 1108) are located here.

The temple is completely in dilapidated condition and requires scientific clearance, removal and reconstruction.

4. Trikuta Temple, Kondaparthi :

Kondaparthy village is situated 12 kms. from Warangal. It is a Trikuta temple constructed during the times of Kakati Ganapati Deva. The inscription in the temple records the construction of the temples dedicated to Siva, Keshava and Proleswara. The Trikuta temple has three shrines, having a Garbhagruha and an Antarala with common Rangamandapa, with an entrance from East. The sikharas of the shrines are built with brick and are of the stepped pyramidal type.

Loose sculptures and inscriptions collected in the village are displayed temporarily in the premises of the temple. The temple is ruined condition and requires total renovation.

5. Jaffargadh Fort, Jaffargadh :

Estd. Cost. Rs. 30.00 lakhs Jaffargadh vlage is situated 40 kms. Southwest of Warangal. The original name of the Jaffargadh was Velupugonda. According to an undated Rashtrakuta inscription carved on a rock wall of the tank of the Lakshmi - Narasimha Swamy hillock, certain Sankaraganda of Rashtrakuta line of chiefs is said to have

constructed the tank on the hill Velupugonda. The village Velupugonda flourished from Rashtrakuta times an occupied by Jaffaruddoula Muslim Ruler in the medieval times after the fall of Kakatiyas. The fort was constructed by Zaffaruddoula it goes by the name of Zaffargadh. The bastions and the gates of fort are fitted with iron cannons. More than 25 cannons are located on the fort. The fortification walls, gateways are in dilapidated condition. All most all the cannons are dislocated from their original positions. There is no proper approach to claim the fort.

Hence, approach, renovation of dilapidated structures and resetting of cannons in their original place in addition to public amenities are required.

6. Sardar Sarvai Paparayudu Fort, Quillashapur:

The Fort is located in Quillashapur village, about 5 kms. from Raghunadhapalli Railway station, on Hanmakonda Hyderabad Highway.

Local legend has associated Quilla shapur with Sardar Papa Rayudu (1700 1709) A.D. a local renegade leader who defied Mughal Imperial authority by his activities centered round Tatikonda, Shahpur, Golconda, Bhuvanagiri, Warangal, Elgandal and kaulas etc. The fort is constructed on square plan with massive bastions at four corners of the fortifications. The fort is locally known as Quillashapur fort is named after the village. The fortification walls and bastions are needed conservation
