DocuWest Film Festival Projectionist Internship

Objectives & Compensation:


This will be a paid internship at $12.50 per hour with a minimum of 40 hours Acquire hands-on experience at an International film festival Opportunity to work closely with FAC staff, filmmakers, community stakeholders and festival organizers. Obtain potential college credit, as determined by university/college academic advisement Practical knowledge from working within a well-established non-profit organization

Projectionist Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Providing DocuWest Film Festival patrons with a flawless cinematic experience by effectively managing the operation, maintenance, and modification of all equipment. Full training of equipment including presentation Prepare and screen all films, and pre-show sponsorship slide Oversee picture and sound quality throughout each show: o Proper patching in of playback sources o Identifying aspect ratio (4x3, 16x9 letterbox, 16x9-anamorphic) o Identifying sound format (Mono, Left/Right, Left Total/Right Total) o Managing lights before and after screening Basic operation of playback sources (HDCam, BetaSP, DigiBeta, DVCam, DVD, Computer) Projection Booth Maintenance o basic maintenance, trouble shooting and cleaning Communication with House Manager

Position Requirements:
A love of film is essential, and previous projection experience is highly desired. This candidate should have a wide range of computer and software skills. Must possess the ability to communicate quickly, clearly and effectively via email with theater management regarding programs, events and booth maintenance. Ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to

go wrong, and to initiate troubleshooting steps to work towards a resolution. Ability to work a flexible schedule, weekends and nights are required. Vision requirements are critical to the position and include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The projectionist must have the ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer). Acute ability to ensure that an image is in focus is crucial. The projectionist must be able to discriminate visual colors (the ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness).Hearing requirements are critical to the position. The projectionist must have the ability to detect or tell the difference between sounds that vary in pitch and loudness. The projectionist must be able to identify the location of any sound or speaker issue in the case of error or problem. Ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions, move quickly from point A to point B to adjust precise controls.
