From: Karah-Leigh Hancock (music reporter at the Athens [GA] Banner-Herald) Date: 11/8/2012 1:12 PM To: Peter Heimlich I'm sorry, but I think you might be taking this thing way too far. Not because I've reported on Luke Bryan, and I'm personally a fan, but I've chocked (sic) plenty of times on food and can't remember the exact details. Choking on food isn't illegal.

Not even his mother will back up the story. Dear Karah-Leigh, Thanks for your e-mail and I'm sorry to hear about your frequent choking episodes. FYI, here's the American Red Cross choking rescue guidelines for conscious adults: http://www.redcross.org/flash/brr/English-html/consciouschoking.asp Re: Luke Bryan's claimed choking rescue, here's an idea. Why don't you fact-check the story? I'm just a humble blogger, so presumably Bryan's representatives have concluded they can ignore me. Since you're a staff reporter at a daily, they may feel compelled to answer you. If the story turns out to be true, that's newsworthy and you can give deserved praise to his unidentified rescuer friend. As I reported in my previous item, I've already nominated his unknown rescuer for a Heimlich Institute Save-A-Life award.* If the story turns out to be bogus, that's newsworthy, too -- even for a fan like you, right? More news pegs? Luke's a Georgian and so am I. In any event, if your paper chooses to report the story, I'm available for comment. Thanks again for your e-mail -- and to avoid further choking, experts recommend that you don't bite off more than you can chew. Cheers, Peter Peter M. From: Karah-Leigh Hancock To: Peter Heimlich I'm a Georgia (sic) and from near his hometown and have interviewed him several times. I just don't see this story as newsworthy... More National Enquire-ish (sic). It would be as if someone gave Carrie Underwood midol for her feminine problems. Sorry!

Not even his mother will back up the story. Interesting reply. Thanks for sharing your perspective -- PMH Three months later I sent her my third item which reported that Bryan's managers told another reporter they would not be answering questions about the alleged choking incident. Not even his mother will back up the story. It's looking like Luke pulled a mini Manti T'eo. His managers are now refusing to answer questions from reporters about his dubious choking rescue: http://www.the-sidebar.com/2013/01/nashville-singer-luke-bryansmanagers.html IMO, it's not nice to tell lies (especially to gin up cheap headlines), but perhaps I'm old-fashioned.
