N-Fab/TiLUBE/Yamaha Motocross Round1 Race Report

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (May 21, 2013) The first round of the AMA Pro Motocross Championship kicked off this past weekend in Sacramento, Calif. with the Hangtown Motocross Classic. Ideal temperatures and sunny skies greeted the N-Fab/TiLUBE/Yamaha riders as they took to the California hillside in hopes of getting their season off on the right foot. In qualifying it was Phil Nicoletti leading the way in 18 with Chris Blose 28 . This weekend was also the first round of the Womens Pro Motocross Triple Crown and N-Fab/TiLUBE/Yamahas Jessica Patterson qualified a respectable fourth. As the 40 rider pack took off for the first moto of the day, Nicoletti was fighting his way through the middle of the pack st while Chris Blose looked for an opening to try and move up from a 31 place start. Nicoletti had set a prerace goal of a top 10 finish and knew he had to pick up the pace to get there. Late in the race he had worked his way into ninth place th before a small mistake on the last lap allowed two riders to slip by dropping him back to 11 where he would finish. Blose th rode a consistent race eventually improving his position to 27 by the end of the race. Patterson didnt get the best of starts in the first WMX moto but she made her way all the way up to third place by the halfway point. Unfortunately a mechanical issue began to emerge shortly thereafter and ultimately forced her to retire early. Moto two got off to a much better start for both Nicoletti and Blose as they rounded turn one in 14 and 20 position, th th respectively. Nicoletti quickly improved to 11 place and would battle for that 10 spot nearly the entire race. He would th go on to replicate his first moto finish earning him an 11 place overall on the day. Blose would again fight hard the entire st th moto, crossing the line in 21 position, good for 25 overall. I had a fairly good day, said Nicoletti. Certainly my expectations of myself are top 10. We are going to work on some settings this week in California and I should be even stronger next weekend in Colorado. After not racing motocross for almost five years it was great to be back out there, said Blose. My first moto did not go as well as I had hoped but I improved in the second one. I am going to keep working hard and will certainly improve as the season goes on. Wrapping up the days action was the second WMX moto. This time Patterson nailed her start and grabbed the coveted holeshot. She would lay down some fast laps but started receiving pressure for the lead around the halfway point. Not giving up easily, Patterson battled for several laps but was unable to maintain her position. She would cross the line in th second. Her podium finish, combined with a moto one DNF, resulted in a 10 place overall finish for the day. Today didnt go exactly how I planned, said Patterson, moments after stepping off the podium. Moto one started out bad and only got worse. Moto two was a definite improvement and I know what I need to work on if I want to win this championship. The series travels to Denver for the Thunder Valley National this Saturday, May 25 .
