This is a pro cedure where the co nnective tissue is bustled up to help with scaring and the ho pe is that this will keep the bladder o r bo wel fro m pro truding into the vagina. This is a po o r pro cedure because the patient has inherently weak co nnective tissue and, in my o pinio n, using the patients o wn co nnective tissue to remedy their pro blem is wro ught with failure. My respo nse to Dr. Kevin Windo m: Likely there are carefully selected patient who have severely weak fascia that there is no o ther viable cho ice but to use the mesh. A vast majo rity o f patients can be managed with no n-mesh related pro cedures with similar rates o f successful o utco mes. The next questio n is who is putting in the mesh. Mesh pro cedures sho uld be carried o ut by trained uro gyneco lo gist with mesh tailo red fo r the particular pro cedure as o ppo sed to utilizing a mesh kit.
