<Manual For M33 Firmware

<IMPORTANT READ THIS: YOU WILL HEAR MENTION OF FLASH FILES

THROUGHOUT THIS MANUAL THESE RE IMPORTANT SYSTEM FILES AND
SHOULD NOT BE ALTERED, NEVER EVER EVER FORMAT THE FLASH WITH
WINDOWS THIS WILL CAUSE A PERMENANT BRICK

<Introduction
-This guide is a helper for people who don’t know how to use M33 firmware, all credits
for firmware creation go to the master psp hacker Dark Alex

<Memory Card Organization

This is how the memory card should be organized

This is how the inside of the PSP folder should look like.

This is inside the ISO folder of the memory stick, just put the game ISOs inside the ISO
folder, UMD movie ISOs go inside the Video folder of the ISO folder

<XMB
-The XMB is the home menu of the psp, from here you launch movies, homebrew apps,
games, and you get the idea.

-The modded psp XMB is exactly like the regular psp XMB with some exceptions
1. Press select in the XMB to bring up the VSH menu, in the VSH Menu you can change
the cpu/UMD speed (increasing the speed lowers battery life), you can also shutdown and
restart the PSP
-In the VSH menu you can change the usb device from your memory stick to your
flash files, or UMD disc so you can make an ISO of the disc, also you can change your
UMD ISO mode to M33 so that you can play backups of your game UMDs (it must be in
M33 mode for UMD ISOs to work right), also if you make a backup of any of your UMD
movies you must change the ISO Video Mount to whatever the name of your UMD
movie ISOs name

-That’s really all you need to know about the VSH Menu

<Recovery Menu
-The recovery menu is meant for advanced psp configurations, partial psp bricks,
enabling plugins, and running special homebrew apps like Hellcats Recovery Flasher

-The only way to access the recovery menu is to completely shutdown the psp (not just
turning it off regularly, you must hold the power switch in the up position for at least 3
secs), then turn on the psp and hold R, then you will get something like this

please note that you should only use the recovery menu to enable plugins or if you have a
partial brick.
<Configuration
-In the configuration section you will have several options; skip sony logo (when
you start the psp you will no longer see the sony computer entertainment text), hide
corrupt icons (if you have something that say corrupted data in the xmb it won’t show),
game folder homebrew (this is only for fats who have installed the 1.5 kernel add on,
basically it switches to partial 1.5 system firmware to run some homebrew that only work
on 1.5) keep it on 5.XX kernel, autorun program at /PSP/GAME/BOOT/EBOOT.PBP
(this is for programs like Hellcats Recovery Flasher don’t mess with it unless you have
to, UMD mode (basically it changes the UMD mode like in the VSH menu), fake region
(this allows you to change your region so you can run things not released for your area),
use VSH menu (this allows you to use the VSH menu), XMB usb device (changes what
you can edit with the computer when you connect with the usb, i.e. Flash files, UMD,
memory card), charge battery when usb cable is connected (self explanatory), use M33
network update ( instead of downloading official updates you will get the latest M33),
hide PICO.PNG and PIC1.PNG in game menu (will stop display of app and game
images), use version.txt (this is an option to use PSN games that require updates that cfw
doesn’t have), and speed up memory stick access (again selfexplanatory)

<Run program at /PSP/GAME/RECOVERY/EBOOT.PBP

-This is to run apps such as hellcats recovery flasher in the recovery menu to help
recover partial bricks

<Advanced
-This is for advanced option such as accessing the Flash via USB you have 5
options in here toggle USB (flash0), (flash1), (flash2), (flash3) these will allow you to
access the flash files from your computer, the last option is format flash1 and reset
settings (this is for people who have bricks, and need to wipe the flash don’t use unless
you know how),

<Advanced Configuration
-This is a subsection in Advanced
-Plain modules in UMD/ISO (this feature is for devs experimenting with
homebrew leave it be), Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO (once again for devs leave it
be), XMB Plugins (allows you to run plugins in the XMB), GAME Plugins (allows you
to run plugins in games), POPS plugins (allows you to run plugins in PS1 games)

<Plugins
-This allows you to enable plugins you have (see notes on multiple
plugins)

<Registry Hacks
-This will allow you to change your psp’s “enter” button from X to O.
<Exit
-Exits recovery and goes to XMB

<Plugins
-Plugins are homebrew, i.e. IRShell, CWCheat, CXMB, and more
-Most plugins will need to be enabled in the Recovery Menu, but this can be problematic
if you have multiple plugins

<Multiple Plugins
-When you download a plugin you will get a text doc with it that goes in the
seplugins folder, this text doc is used by the recovery menu and without it the plugin
won’t work right, so what do you do when you have multiple plugins that have different
VSH texts? You must edit the VSH.txt, and its easy here’s how,
1. First open the VSH text in your seplugins folder it will read like this
ms0:/seplugins/pluginname.prx (there may be an 0 or 1 after it the 0=disabled,
1=enabled)
2. So if you have multiple plugins, then all you need to do is open the
VSH.txt that came with the downloaded app, copy the text from there and paste it in the
VSH text duh duh dah!

<UMD ISOs
- Are you tired of carrying around UMDs then you need an ISO! To make one here’s what
you need to do, every CFW comes with the option to change the USB device, to make an
ISO put the UMD in the psp change the USB device to UMD disc, and then copy all the
files into your computer, after that change the USB device back to memory stick and then
paste the files in the ISO folder, why do it that way when you can use an app though?
There is an app out from PhonicUK that dumps the ISO of your UMD to memory stick
from your psp here’s a link to the latest version
http://www.phonicuk.com/UMDumper.aspx, remember to thank him for all his hard work
-PLEASE NOTE THAT WHEN YOU COMPRESS ANYTHING THERE IS A
LIKELYHOOD OF IT NOT WORKING THIS APPLIES ESPECIALLY FOR ISOs IF
THE ISO DOES NOT WORK AND YOU COMPRESSED IT UNCOMPRESS IT!

<The ISO Is Too Big And Compressing Doesn’t Work

-Sometimes the ISO is too big and compression will make it not work, so what do
you do? Use UMDGen
on your computer to rid
the ISO of unneeded
files, sometimes games
are too small and they
don’t take up enough
room on the disc so
devs will put a dummy
file in there to space out
the other files so the
game runs smooth,
these dummy files can
be deleted without
harming the ISO, also if
you don’t wan the other
language files on there
you can delete them as
well, and on top of that
if the UMD had an
update in there then its
in the ISO and takes up space you can delete it!
In here you see the update files they can be deleted safely
Here you see the language files, these can be deleted safely remember to keep your
language! (The finished file only takes 812MB compared to the original 1.16GB!)

Here is a link to UMDGen 4.00 http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/948

<Flash Files
-Flash files are stored on your motherboard and are important to the system operations,
the only reason I’m assuming you want to mess
with these is for themes, but CXMB will take care
of those if you really want them, so I am going to
tell you how to access them and what to do

<Flash0
-There are more flashes but I will talk only
about this because it relates to themes
-To see all the files in the flash you must
enable show hidden files, in XP this will be all
you need to do but in Vista you must also disable
hide protected operating system files
-Once finished with that this is what you will see

now if you want to install a custom gameboot (a video that plays when you start games)
which is all this will cover enter the VSH folder

Now enter the resource folder

You can see the many files in the only one you should replace is the gameboot file, it
should be a pmf file, to install your custom gameboot rename it gameboot.pmf, then copy
and paste it here, REMEMBER BACKUP THE FLASH BEFORE YOU EDIT, it will
overwrite the old one and then you are done.

<Making PS1 Games Run On Your PSP

-From 3.xx there has been a PS1 emulator in your PSP, but they must be in EBOOT form,
so I will try my best to teach you how to do that using psx2psp (NOTE FOR VISTA
USERS, SET PSX2PSP IN COMPATIBILITY MODE TO XP).
1. First you will need to download psx2psp, but the normal download
doesn’t include the basefile.pbp needed for psx2psp to run correctly, but I took mercy on
you and uploaded PSX2PSPv1.4.2 complete with everything you need here
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TJ4ULZKE
2. Now that you have gotten psx2psp you will need an ISO of the Playstation 1
game you OWN, so to make an ISO you will need a program of some sort, if you don’t
have one use magic ISO http://www.magicISO.com/

3.

The home menu in theme mode of psx2psp

4.

After clicking on options, you will see this, if you made an EBOOT and it doesn’t work
set the compression level to 0, don’t mess with anything else.
5.

Now its time to select your ISO

6.

You will now have to select your ISO, or as you can see here EBOOT, this program also
offers the option to combine EBOOTS
7.

Now time for some customization, you can select which image you want to be your eboot
image, background image, and boot image (they must be in PNG format)

When you are ready press convert, and then when the conversion is done you put the file
it created with the eboots in it, into the GAME folder of the memory stick.

8. (Optional)
Okay sometimes PSX2PSP theme mode does not let you select multiple ISOs so if you
wish to remedy this simple run it in classic mode. It will look like this

<Cool Apps
-here are some links to some cool applications
CWCheat
http://cwcheat.consoleworld.org/
IRShell
http://irshell.org/site/
Emulators For SLIMS
