D. History. The Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation began life as the Rizal Development Bank. It was the first development bank to be established in the province of Rizal. It was incorporated on 4 August 1960, opening its doors to the public on 23 September 1960. The Original office of the Rizal Development Bank was on the ground floor of "The House," the building owned by the Yuchengcos on Ayala Avenue in Makati, which was then a part of Rizal province. It had a general manager and a staff of 15. RCBC Milestones 1960s

1962 December - The development bank received the Centrals Bank's approval to operate as a commercial bank.

1963 January 2 - Rizal Development Bank, which had become the largest private development bank in the country, changed its status to a commercial bank and adopted the name Rizal Commercial Banking Corp. (RCBC). RCBC is the first commercial bank with its head office located in the province of Rizal. 1964 - RCBC's Binondo branch is established. 1965 - In 1965, in the midst of presidential elections and a regime of monetary and credit restrictions pushing interests rates higher and choking every segment of the economy, RCBC was able to post a 20 percent growth in net income reaching P1 million.

1965-1969 1967 - Vice Chairman Alfonso Yuchengco took over the board chairmanship. The appointment of Alfonso T. Yuchengco , a recognized Filipino-Chinese business leader as board chairman further strengthened the bank's foothold in the Filipino-Chinese community. 1968 - RCBC established its Trust Department. 1969 April - RCBC enters into functional merger with Bancom Corporation. 1969 May - RCBC established its Treasury Department 1970s

1972 - RCBC Corporate Logo 1972-1977 1975 March - From its head office at the Northern Motors building at 219 Buendia Avenue (now Gil Puyat Avenue), RCBC moved to its new headquarters at 333 Buendia Extension and Reposo Street (now Nicanor Garcia Street) in Makati. 1973 - RCBC establishes Philippine Pacific Capital Corp. as joint venture with Continental Illinois National Bank & Trust Co. of Chicago, USA (CONNILL) and Sanwa Ltd. 1977 - RCBC was given the license to operate a Foreign Currency Deposit Unit.

1978 - As a member of the Yuchengco Group of Companies, the bank modified its logo to include the hexagon -- the symbol of the YGC integrated financial services. 1979 - RCBC International Finance Ltd. was registered as a deposit-taking company in Hong Kong. 1980s 1987 - The PBM (Personal Banking Machine) card became the RCBC ATM card in 1991. 1987 November 6 - RCBC implemented the online-tellering system that would link most of its Metro Manila Branches. The bank introduced the Personal Banking Machine, the automated teller machine, at the head office. 1989 August - With seven other banks, RCBC launched the shared ATM Consortium, called BancNet. 1989 November 21 - Central Bank approves RCBC's application to operate as an expanded commercial bank and becomes the country's 6th universal bank. 1990s 1990 October - RCBC entered into a joint venture with Honda Cars, Mitsubishi Corp. of Japan, and the Ayala Group to produce Honda Cars for Philippine market. Honda Cars Inc. started production in 1992. 1991 August - RCBC TeleMoney opened shop in Doha, Qatar, through a special arrangement with Al Fardan Exchange. 1992 September 24 - For its active involvement in socio-civic projects, RCBC was given the "Corporation that Made a Difference" award by the International Women's Forum (IWF) during the 8th Annual IWF Conference in Devner Colorado. 1992 October - RCBC TeleMoney Florence (Italy) opened followed by RCBC TeleMoney Bahrain. 1993 - The bank launched its Phone Banking Service 1994 October 23 - In line with its environmental protection campaign, the bank launched the Kwentong Kalikasan, Katha ng Kabataan story writing contest for school children. It garnered the Anvil Award of Excellence for Best PR Program. 1995 April 29 - The RCBC Plaza held its groundbreaking ceremonies at the corner of Ayala and Gil Puyat avenues in Makati.

1995-2006 1996 January 15 - RCBC Savings Bank (RSB) was incorporated to provide retail banking services to its target clientele and serve as the consumer and retail banking arm of RCBC. 1996 September 26 - The bank launched an international credit card called the RCBC JCB Credit Card. 1996 November - The bank established the RCBC TeleMoney Europe with the opening of nine remittance centers in Italy. Other TeleMoney centers were opened -- three in the United Arab Emirates, two in Lebanon, one in Guam, Saipan, and Germany. By the end of 1996, RCBC would have 35 remittance centers all over the world. RCBC was recognized as the "Most Outstanding Financial Institution of 1995" and "Top Performing Financial Institution under the Industrial Restructuring Project and Wholesale Lending Program" by the Development Bank of the Philippines. The bank was also acknowledged as the 3rd Top Oustanding Accredited Financial Institution Award for 1995 by the Guarantee Fund for Small and Medium Enterprise (GFSME) RCBC Capital Corp. emerged as one of the top investment houses in the Philippines. 1997 - RCBC's Branch Banking Group Continued to expand into its target high-growth areas such as industrial estates and export processing zones (EPZs). 1997 - The bank launched its new corporate campaign called "The Power of Integrated Banking" 1998 - RCBC Savings Bank acquires Capitol Development Bank. 1999 - RCBC TeleMoney expanded its network by opening additional remittance centers in Singapore, United Arad Emirates, Lebanon, Cyprus, Brunei, Belgium, Spain, and Australia. 2000s 2000 February - RCBC hosted the Third Asian Bankers' Forum at the Peninsula Manila. The forum is an annual event during which Sanwa Bank affiliates in Asia meet to share experience, exchange ideas, and explore various ways of cooperation. The Bills Payment Machine was launched with the installation of 39 PBMs in different PLDT and Globe Telecom offices. 2000 March - RCBC introduced the Super Fund, the first long term tax-exempt common trust fund.

2000 May - RCBC Capital Corp. and Equitable-PCI Bank sign a share Purchase Agreement where the former agreed to acquire 67% interest in Bankard. RCBC introduced the TeleMoney cash card, a peso denominated debit card and the Telemoney Advise and pay to allow designated beneficiaries the convenience of picking up remittances through any of RCBC business centers. 2001 - The RCBC Plaza was inaugurated on February 5, 2001 and became RCBC's corporate headquarters. 2001 June 11 - RCBC launched the Enterprise Banking Internet Service 2001 October - RCBC was one of the three underwriters of the first-of-its-kind Dollar Linked Peso Notes, making it the first and only domestic bank performing the syndicate. 2003 - RCBC Plaza placed third in the "Energy Efficient Buildings -New and Existing Building Category" of the ASEAN Energy Awards. RCBC Plaza was the only contestant in the Philippines qualified to join the competition and eventually became the first Philippine firm to be awarded as such. 2003 September - The Philippine Social Security Council gave RCBC Savings Bank the Balikat ng Bayan Award for the "Best Collecting Thrift Bank" for consistently posting the highest contribution collection in 2002. The bank was again given the same award in 2004 2003 October - RCBC hosted the 20th general meeting of the Asia Banker's Association at the RCBC Plaza. The bank established a 24-hour Contact Center that would handle all inbound inquiries for current and savings accounts, ATM, remittance, and stocks transfer services. 2004 January - RCBC forged a partnership with Verified by Visa, an Internet authentication service provided by Visa international. 2004 July - RCBC introduced the BancNet SMS banking facility so clients could pay their bills through short messaging service. RCBC is the first among BancNet's member banks to launch the SMS banking facility. 2005 May - TeleMoney launched TeleRemit that would allow benefiaciaries of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to encash from any business centers of RCBC and RCBC Savings Banks nationwide. 2005 September - For its accurate and timely reporting of remittances of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), RCBC was recognized by the bangko Central ng Pilipinas (BSP) as the "Outstanding Commercial Bank Reporter of OFW Remittances"

RCBC introduced myRCBC Access Card, a card that links up to 10 accounts to one card, including passbook based and regular checking accounts. The products is accessible through electronic banking channels. 2006 - "Banking is a relationship" became the bank's branding campaign.

2007-Present 2007 March - In line with its strategy of increasing branch network to be more accessible to its consumers, RCBC acquired Merchants Bank. With the acquisition, the branch network had reached 324. 2007 March - RCBC bolstered its financial strength by raising PhP 5.6 billion in an over-subscribed follow-on common stock. 2007 March - The Bureau of Treasury had cited RCBC--for the third time--as one of the Ten Most Active Players in the Industry. 2008 November - RCBC inaugurates YGC center, a one-stop YGC account access/payment shop for clients, at the RCBC Greenhills branch. 2008 November - RCBC myWallet, which allows cardholders to reload cash through ATM, received the Gold Quill Award of Merit from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). 2009 - The RCBC getaloan web portal wins an Anvil Award of Merit during the 45th Anvil Awards for its efforts in pushing forward its SME loan assistance program using technology to make the bank more accessible to numerous SMEs all over the country. RCBC Posted a P3.31 billion net income in 2009, a growth of 54percent from 2008. 2010 - RCBC kicks off its 50th year with a celebration at sofitel, simultaneously with YCG sister company Malayan Insurance which celebrates its 80th year.
