PROTECTING

ALL OUR CHILDREN

Tackling Grooming, Safeguarding Children in all Communities
Organised by the Muslim Council of Britain

Thursday 20th June 2013 9.30am to 4.30pm

*lunch provided

Regent Hall, 275 Oxford Street, London W1C 2DJ

Objectives
Grooming of children and child abuse are crimes that afflict all sections of our society; they need to be eradicated. Any attempt to stigmatise certain communities is unhelpful. Nevertheless, these problems do exist in Muslim communities and it requires a collective and robust response. The conference brings together religious scholars, religious and community leaders, social workers and community activists. Our key objective is a simple one and that is to protect all victims of abuse and know how to do this in the most effective way. The conference also seeks to raise awareness around the following, and to provide a forum from which positive actions can be taken to benefit not only the Muslims, but also wider communities regardless of race or religion: Child/youth sexual exploitation - the facts about the extent of the problems. Media reporting of the issues - biased or balanced? What can be done at a local and national level? What support is available today? How can different organisations and communities work together? Are there typical behavioural patterns to help us recognise victims of abuse? How can we identify and prevent potential perpetrators of such criminality?
