Since the early years of my own guitar-playing, Ive always found Tab-books to be valuable tools in my
development as a musician. Not only to lean my favourite songs, but also to study the techniques and structures used,
and thus be able to apply this to my own music. Chances are, since you're reading this, you may have similar intentions,
‘and perhaps also be familiar with Emperor. Anyway, I'l start with some of the background for this book
In my experience as a guitar teacher I've come across a lot of transcribed metalmaterial. However, when looking for
‘material covering the more extreme forms of metal, | found there were definite shartcomings, and hence came the
idea to do @ Tab-book on Emperor. Having used some of the Emperor material in my lessons already, | decided to do
the transcriptions myself, making sure everything was presented correctly,
So, what is included?
‘Well, this book is based on the'Scatzered Ashes" compilation, and includes thirteen original Emperor-songs spanning
from the first EP til the last "Prometheus" album. It should therefore cover a wide range of Emperor's music and
variety in technical level. So, whether you are an experienced player or not, you should hopefully find something
‘ppropriate, given that you know the basics of reading tablature. Though the abilty to learn music by ear is equally
important, reading and writing music in some form may also come in handy from time to time, and | beliave
‘approaching these theoretic skils through transcriptions of familiar music is a good starting point.
Finally, in writing this book, Ive found it interesting to analyze the material and Emperor's musical development; from the
more basic riffs and song-structures of our early recordings, to the samewhat more complex harmonies and
Counterpoint of our later work. And though Emperor has never been about virtuaso-solaing and show-off
performances, | hope this book may inspire, and provide deeper insight into the music behind the "extreme’.
Hope you enjoy it,
IHSAHN,
