B11: GYPSUM / GRC BOARD SYSTEMS

PART I : GENERAL A. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS Work of this section, as shown or specified shall be in accordance with the requirements of the whole set of the Contract Documents. B. SCOPE OF WORK This section covers provision and installation of interior gypsum / GRC board system for ceiling, soffit, fascia accessories and required, on location as shown on drawing 1. Section Included: a. Provision of system drawings based on drawings provided. b. Provision of gypsum / GRC, accessories and suspension materials as required in system. c. Installation of the system Sections related: Section B6 Wood Carpentry

Fire Resistance Ratings: Where gypsum / GRC board assemblies with fire ratings are indicated, provide materials and installations which are identical with those of applicable assemblies tested per ASTM E 119 by testing laboratories acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction. Acoustic Ratings: Where gypsum / GRC board assemblies with sound ratings are indicated, provide materials and installation tested by manufacturer to achieve required STC ratings SUBMITTALS General Product data Samples : Submit following items in accordance with Section 01300. : Submit manufacturers technical literature for each product. : Submit 300mm x 300mm samples of each type trim and reveal moldings, and texture. Test reports : Submit test reports for each proposed fire rated and sound rated assembly at testing compliance with indicated requirements. Manufacturers Instructions : Submit manufacturers printed instructions for each product; including applicable temperature ranges. QUALITY ASSURANCE

Single Source Responsibility: Except where specified otherwise, obtain gypsum / GRC board products, trim, joint treatment, and accessories from a single manufacturer or manufacturers recommended by prime manufacture of gypsum boards

G. FIELD SAMPLES 1. 2. Provide sample of approximately 30 sq.m for each texture representing workmanship of finished work. Sample may be incorporated as part of work approved in writing by Engineer

H. PRE INSTALATION CENFERENCE 1. 2. I. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. J. Conduct pre installation conference. Require attendance of gypsum / GRC board installer and installers of related work. Review installation procedures and coordination required with related work. DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING Deliver, store, handle, and protect products in accordance with Section 01600. Deliver to project site promptly without undue exposure to weather and store in dry, ventilated space, off ground, properly supported on level platform and fully protected from weather and direct sunlight exposure. Deliver in manufacturers unopened container or bundles, fully identified with name, brand, type and grade. Store gypsum board in flat stacks properly supported to prevent sagging. Protect materials from soiling, rusting and damage. EXTRA STOCK MATERIAL

Furnish with initial shipment 3% extra quantities of lath type 1 to replace normal breakage during delivery and erection. Deliver extra materials remaining at end of installment to owner for future use. PART II : PRODUCT A. PRODUCTS AND MANUFACTURERS Acceptable Products and manufacturers: 1. 2. Gypsum Board: 9 mm Boral wet area fine stop plasterboard or equal at kitchen or indicate on drawing. 9 mm Boral plaster board or equal GRC Board: 5 mm

B. GYPSUM / GRC BOARD PRODUCTS AND ACCESSORIES 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Gypsum / GRC Board: Square cuts ends, tapered edges, and type X at fire rated assemblies, (see drawing) regular type at other locations, or 9 mm thick except where indicated otherwise. Screws: Type S, self-taping, Flathead, power driven, non-corroding type, and length as required by gypsum board manufacturer. Tape: Perforated paper in roll form. Joint compounds for taping and topping: Types recommended by manufacturer of gypsum board product. Casing bead and corner bead: 0.80 mm (26 gauge) galvanized steel designed for embedment in joint compound. Control joints: Back to casing bead with clear polyethylene air seal

PART III : EXECUTION A. EXAMINATION Examination support system and adjacent construction for conditions that would prevent proper installation of gypsum / GRC board systems. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions are corrected. Beginning of execution will constitute acceptance of existing conditions B. GYPSUM / GRC BOARD INSTALLATION 1. General Requirements : a. Install gypsum / GRC board in accordance with manufacturers requirements. b. Use boards of maximum length to minimize end joints. c. About boards without forcing; neatly fit ends and edges of board and do not place butt ends against tapered edged. Hold bottom of board 6 mm above floor. d. Support ends and edges of board on framing or furring members, except for face layer of double layer application. e. Stagger end joints; stager vertical joints on opposite side of partition to accurately on alternate framing members. f. Do not locate vertical joint within 200 mm of external corners of windows, doors, or other such openings, except at control joints. g. Cut openings in board to fit electrical outlets, plumbing, light fixtures, piping and other similar items snugly and small enough to be covered by plates and. h. Do not install imperfect, damp or damage boards. i. In concealed spaces above ceilings where designated partitions extend full coverage on both faces of framing system or fire, sound, and smoke rated partitions. j. In concealed spaces above ceiling where designated non-rated partitions extend full height to structure above, install board in not less than 75% full coverage on each face of framing system and may be accomplished with scraps of not less than 2.5 sq.m area. k. In concealed space above ceiling where designated chased walls extend full height to structure above, install boards in full coverage framing system. Ceiling Install ceiling by placing with long edge at right angle to furring or framing members. Curved Gypsum Board Installation: a. Score or cut through back paper of panels at 25-mm intervals after cutting board to required width and length. b. Moisten face and back paper thoroughly one prior to application. c. Place a stop at one end of curve and gentle and gradually push on other end of boards, forcing center against framing until curve is complete. Screw securely to framing. Fasteners Application: a. Use screws when fastening gypsum / GRC board to metal furring or framing. b. Use nails or screws when fastening gypsum / GRC board to wood furring or framing. c. Stagger fasteners opposite each other on adjacent ends or edges. d. Space fasteners as recommended by gypsum board manufacturer to achieve fire rated construction. e. Drive screws with positive clutch electric screwdriver. f. Lightly dimple gypsum board with screw head; do not rupture paper. g. Construction Tolerances: Do not exceed 3 m in 240 cm variation from plumb or level in any exposed line exposed line or surface. Do not exceed 1.5 mm variation between planes of abutting edges or ends Tim Application: a. Install casing beads and corner beads flush and full height, using largest practical length; miter corners and intersections. b. Place corner beads at external angles of gypsum board work. c. Place casing beads where board abuts dissimilar materials or where edge would otherwise be unfinished. d. Install back-to-back casing beads at control joints where indicated on drawings and additionally in accordance with following: Located at joints of maximum stress and/or at points of natural weak planes such as at openings, juncture of dissimilar materials, and at re-entrant corners. In ceilings space not to exceed 15.24 m centers ===============
