MEMORIZING THE MAP Though constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law (Ps.

119:109) Scripture: Psalm 119:105-112 In planning to attend a concert in a city about 50 miles from home, I pulled up a map on the internet. The city had a complicated downtown with many one-way streets. So I studied the route before I got in my car, and then tucked the map into the glove compartment. When I left, I thought I had plenty of time to get to the concert. But when I entered the downtown area, I immediately became disoriented. I couldnt remember the names of the neighboring streets and that valuable map just wasnt within arms reach. Soon I was driving in circles. I finally pulled over and got out the map which lead me straight to the concert. (late, of course!) How often do I do the same with Gods word the life map Hes given me? Oh, I study the word but then I tucked it away, sometimes for days. I set out to live life as I think I remember Him directing, only to find myself straying from the pathway of peace and joy. What great reason we have for hiding His word in our hearts! Not only does God promise to guide our footsteps; He promises sweet companionship along the way. Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, pull me to your word daily, that I might know the blessed fellowship of your presence. How I need your constant wisdom and encouragement! I pray through Christ my Lord. Amen. 105: When darkness settles down upon all around me, the word of the Lord, like a flaming torch, reveals my way to guide us by its instruction. The word of God directs us in our work and way. The commandment is a lamp kept burning with the oil of the Spirit, as a light to direct us in the choice of our way, and the steps we take in that way. 106: Whatever path might open before you, you have decided or sworn to follow that only upon which the lamp of the word was shining. 108: There can be no acceptance where there is no willingness; there is no work of free grace where there is no fruit of freewill. 109: To have our soul or life continually in our hands implies constant danger of life; yet he did not forget God's promises nor his precepts. 110: By keeping to the ways of the Lord we shall escape the snares of our adversaries, for his ways are safe and free from treachery. 111: If we might have our desire, we would desire to keep the commands of God perfectly. To know the doctrine, to enjoy the promise, to practice the command 112: Heavenly treasures are a heritage for ever; all the saints accept them as such, therefore they can be content with little of this world. We must look for comfort only in the way of duty, and that duty must be done. A good man, by the grace of God, brings his heart to his work, then it is done well. (Ps 119:113120)
