Q. Who is eligible to apply? First ScotRail welcome applications for internal vacancies from staff for vacancies which they consider themselves suitable. Applicants must have successfully completed their probationary period. In accordance with our promotional agreements, applicants from the promotional line of the advertised vacancy will have preference for those vacancies. Q. What do I do if I want to apply for more than one vacancy on the same list?

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Please provide as much information as possible of all relevant qualifications and experience, and try to answer all questions fully. Please ensure that you fill in the vacancy number and list number as printed on the advert i.e. vacancy 218 List 47/12. Payment for all posts advertised will be by 4 weekly credit transfer. SEM.2 : COMPETENCE AND DEVELOPMENT ASSESSOR - INVERNESS VACANCY No. 138 THE ROLE: Responsible to the Competence and Development Manager for effective and efficient delivery of staff development and competence assessments, across the engineering function, using industry best practice. Development and maintenance of a library/suite of training course materials. Delivery of staff development and competence assessments in line with business/personal needs based plans. THE PERSON: A Highly motivated team player with the ability to motivate others to consistently deliver and exceed on set standards and business targets. OPERATIONS VACANCIES
CONDUCTOR(S), INVERNESS VACANCY No. 144 THE ROLE: Ensuring the safety of passengers boarding/alighting trains, door operation and brake testing. Commercial duties such as ticket issuing, information, public address, overcrowding etc. Providing assistance to customers who require such and dealing with emergency situations and delay contingency plans. THE PERSON: Customer orientated and safety conscious. Applicants must be able to work to set Rules and procedures and cope under pressure. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Knowledge of on-train ticket issuing process, railway geography, local and national rail products etc desirable. TRAVEL SHOP GRADE 1, INTERNAL RELIEF AYR (TEMPORARY) VACANCY No. 145 THE ROLE: Travel shop duties including ticket issuing, enquiries, reservations, and all associated accountancy procedures. Ensure the travel shop displays current advertising and publicity materials. Preparation, issue and collection of portable ticket issuing machines and all associated accountancy. OTHA GRADE 2: SERVICE CENTRE SUPERVISOR, INVERNESS (TEMPORARY) VACANCY No. 146 THE ROLE: Assist in the day to day operation of the Hospitality Team, supporting the Service Centre Manager to ensure consistent and safe standards over a 7 day week. Ensure control procedures and accurate records are maintained, using the appropriate computer or manual systems. Ensure that all specified trains are supplied with a Hospitality Service. Security of stock and cash in accordance with First ScotRail procedures. Cover any train that may require to be covered, as per the Operations Manager instructions. Ensure the food quality, presentation and service are provided to the standard as laid down by the EHO food hygiene regulations and ensure that all employees use safe methods of work. Clerical activities in respect of unit controls, records and wages using computer and paperwork systems in accordance with company policy and procedures. Promote good staff relations and minimise labour turnover. THE PERSON: Minimum of one year's experience as a Hospitality Assistant, or similar. Enthusiastic and customer orientated eager to assist and provide a quality journey for the customer. Ability to plan and react to events to ensure appropriate train services are allocated a catering service. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: A Customer Service SVQ would be advantageous. Knowledge of computer systems, Operations Manual and Company Rules and Procedures, basic food hygiene regulations, cash handling and the ability to communicate effectively with other staff and customers. Issue tickets to customers in line with the excess fares procedures using the relevant ticket issuing equipment. Check tickets and supporting documents. At automatic gatelines ensure the safe operation of the gateline including the identification of safety hazards to the gateline operation and opening the gates when required. Ensure a safe environment around the gateline including cordoning off hazards and cleaning up minor spills. Operate the wide isle gate and ensure the numbers of gates set for passenger flows in each direction are appropriate. Assist with customer direction and queue management to ensure control of any build up of customers in the gateline vicinity. Carry out queue busting duties as required. Identify the development of queue lengths against pre set limits and determine when to open all gates to improve flow rates. Empty the ticket hoppers, dispose of the tickets collected and clean the gates and associated plant equipment.
