ABSTRACT OF THE PRESENTATION (Approx. 100 words) This presentation intends to show the ways in which a group of researchers at a public university in Bogot (Colombia) has examined / understood how some trends in education have emerged and evolved in the last couple of years. These changes have suggested that what the research group did in the past needs to enrich new efforts which aim in a somewhat different direction. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the decisions that the group has

made and to share the ways in which these decisions have inspired new research efforts. These new efforts tend to focus on the configuration of learning experiences, the development of pedagogically sophisticated environments and the personalization of the learning process by favoring student decision-making. DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENTATION WHICH SHOULD INCLUDE ALL ASPECTS RELATED AND THE THEORETICAL SUPPORT (600 WORDS MAXIMUM).

This presentation intends to show the ways in which a group of researchers at a public university in Bogot (Colombia) has examined / understood how some trends in education have emerged and evolved in the last couple of years. These trends keep changing every year as the results of improvements in technological mediations and of our understanding of what we believe education must do in order to help our students prepare for life in this ever-changing world. In this way, the group of researchers has identified key areas which have remained almost intact over the last seven years and suggest that, given the trends in education and technology, the efforts of teachers and policy-makers should be aimed in a given direction. These changes have suggested that what the research group did in the past needs to enrich new efforts which aim in a somewhat different direction. Previous research exercises have included the development of technological mediations, computer software and learning environments. However, the changes occurring now indicate that the group should now engage in exercises that focus on providing the students with opportunities for making decisions, adapting available resources to personal needs and negotiating modes of interaction, evaluation processes and criteria. The purpose of this presentation is to discuss the decisions that the group has made and to share the ways in which these decisions have inspired new research efforts. As a member of a research group, I am interested in carrying out research which results in undeniable benefits for both teachers and students. These new efforts are inspired in those students and teachers who still believe that the power of teaching-learning still

resides in the people who commit, participate, propose, and are willing to take risks to succeed. From this we expect nothing less than more relevant learning experiences, pedagogically sophisticated and personalized learning processes, and more critical and proactive students.
