Follow these basic steps to use Plan-Um 1. Click on the Job Information menu tab, and enter Tester and Site information.

2. The Network View menu tab, allows you to create a simple topological view of your physical network by selecting network icons from a list and drawing connections to simulate the physical layout of your network. o Click on a network icon on the left toolbar. When it pops into the upper left corner of the canvas, drag it to the position where you want to place it. Multiple clicks will create multiple icons numbered in the order of your clicks. Repeat this process until all Network icons are placed on your layout.

o To customize the icon name that displays on the canvas, click on the New Device Name dialog box on the left toolbar and type the name you wish to specify, then click the icon you wish to add. The custom name will appear on the canvas under the icon.

Note: Text entered in the New Device Name dialog box will automatically be associated with every icon placed on the canvas until you delete the text from the dialog box.

o To insert Notes regarding network devices, select an icon displayed on the canvas and click on the Notes dialog box on the left toolbar. Type information regarding this device, such as the designated function, MAC address, date of install, or user.

You can also place text with information regarding the network anywhere on the Network View canvas. Click Add Text on the left toolbar. When the Properties dialog box pops up, enter the text, select the font size, and click ok to place the text on the canvas. Click and hold the left mouse button to move the text anywhere on the screen.

Once the Network Port icons have been added, click the Connections button at the bottom of the left toolbar to draw connections between each piece of equipment. Click Add Connections to simulate the physical layout of your network.

Note: To create angled connections by adding vertices, or inflection points, that allow you to go around equipment displayed in the Network View, right click on a connection at a point where you would like to bend the line. Holding the left mouse button, drag the line into a bent position and release.

3. Click on the Floor Plan tab to draw a simple room layout and place the ports and cables to be installed. Each cable you define is recorded in the Cable Test Schedule. From the list of Residential or Commercial rooms, click the room name and resize it by placing the cursor over a wall line.
