This graduate course (Course for Environmentally Symbiotic Agriculture) is designed for those who wish to take graduate education in English.The selection of foreigners (non-Japanese nationals) applying for this course will be carried out following these guidelines.

This guidebook includes two separate guidelines, one is for the applicants who wish to take a masters degree from Ibaraki University, and the other is for the applicants who wish to take two masters degrees both from Ibaraki University and his/her home university. The educational program for obtaining two degrees, designated as double degree program (DDP), is based on the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between Graduate School of Agriculture, Ibaraki University and Graduate schools of Bogor Agricultural University in Republic of Indonesia. Thus the applicants for DDP have to be admitted to enter the graduate course of the university before applying for this course in Ibaraki University. 2. Application requirements

Applicants must meet requirements (1)(3) below.

(1) Do not have Japanese nationality. (2) Have the resident status of college student as stipulated under the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act, or can change their present resident status to college student after entry into the Graduate School.

(3) Have taken a score above a certain level in either of TOEFL, TOEIC, or IELTS: 510 (TOEFL PBT), 64 (TOEFL iBT), 680 (TOEIC), or 5.5 (IELTS). The time of examination is acceptable at any time.

In addition, they must also meet one of the following requirements:


1 Have already completed or will complete their 16-year school education

in a foreign country by September 30, 2012.

of a foreign country by completing a correspondence course from a school of that country in Japan by September 30, 2012.
16 24 9 30 3 Are specially designated by the Minister of Education, Culture Sports,

Science and Technology of Japan. 4 Have either studied or will study for three years or more as a foreign student in a university, or have completed or will complete 15 years of school education in a foreign country by September 30, 2012, and are certified to have successfully obtained the prescribed credits with satisfactory results. (See note 1).

Have graduated or will graduate from a university as stipulated in

Article 52 of the School Education Act (Law No. 26 enacted in 1947) as a foreign student by September 30, 2012.

those having graduated from university through an individual screening for 3

admission requirements conducted by the Graduate School and have reached 22 years of age by September 30, 2012. (See note 2)

The selection is based on the academic achievement test (to be conducted in the form of an interview in English). Admission will be based on the overall evaluation of the cover letter, the transcript issued by the applicants last school and other submitted documents.

5. Application procedure (1) Documents to submit Applicants must submit the documents (1)(6) indicated below. Applicants must include a transfer payment receipt of fee for examination at 30,000 yen in an envelope (332 mm240 mm) marked Application for the Graduate School inside in red ink. For postal application, the documents must be sent by registered mail.

Pay the fee for examination through a bank transfer using the attached direct deposit sign up form at banking facilities such as bank, credit association or farmers co-operative, but not at Japan Post Bank/post offices. b. Upon transfer, you must receive two types of transfer payment receipts as parts of the direct deposit sign up form: one is [] and the other is [ ] in Japanese. You should confirm that both transfer payment receipts are sealed with the receiving stamps of banking facilities. c. Use the form designated by the Graduate School of Agriculture. Prepare the transcript issued by the last school you attended (It must contain the statement about the

evaluation criteria and must be officially sealed.).

Submit the certificate of graduation (or completion) or that of expected graduation (or completion) of the last school you attended.

Submit a copy of the certificate of score evaluation from any of the TOEFL, TOEIC or IELTS tests. The examinee must bring the original certificate on the day of examination.

The period is between July 11 (Wed) and July 17 (Tue), 2012. (3) How will your examination voucher be sent to you?

After the end of the application acceptance period, an examination voucher and the guidelines for examinees will be sent to the applicant. If you do not receive your examination voucher, please make an inquiry to the following contact address. If you changed your address after having submitted your application form, you are asked to report it to the following address immediately.

6. Notification of admission Successful applicants will be listed on the notice board of the Graduate School of Agriculture at 1 pm on August 24 (Friday), 2012, and written notification of admission will be sent out to applicants by postal mail. Inquiries by other means including telephone will not be accepted. Unsuccessful applicants will not be notified. Moreover, the examinee 6

numbers of successful applicants will also be released on the webpage of the Graduate School of Agriculture (after 2 pm).

Preliminary screening

2. Notification of the result of preliminary screening The applicant will be notified of the result by postal mail from the Dean of the Graduate School of Agriculture by July 11 (Wed), 2012.

Individual screening for admission requirements (screening for application requirements) 6 of the special selection for foreign 1. Regarding application requirement applicants, those satisfying the following condition will be granted the qualification for application based on individual screening for admission requirements (screening for application requirements).

Those having graduated not from a 4-year university but from an institution such as junior college, technical college, special technical college, other type of school, Japanese branch school of a foreign university or school for foreign students, and having been recognized as having equal or superior academic capacity to that of university graduates following the individual screening of the applicants capacities conducted by the Graduate School, and having attained 22 years of age. 8

The phrase those having attained 22 years of age for the individual screening for admission requirements (screening for application requirements) refers to those who have reached the 22 years of age by September 30 of the year of admission.

(4) Notification of the result of individual screening for admission requirements (screening for application requirements)

The applicant will be notified of the result from the Dean of the Graduate School of Agriculture by July 11 (Wed), 2012.

(5) Selection criteria in the individual screening for admission requirements (screening for application requirements) The selection will be carried out based on the overall evaluation of submitted documents, including the academic record of the last school attended, the curriculum vitae and the reasons for application.

(6) If the applicant has been granted qualification for application following the individual screening for admission requirements (screening for application requirements), he or she can proceed to the application for the entrance examination of the Graduate School of Agriculture. Applicant should submit a copy of the notification letter issued by the Graduate School with the application documents for the entrance examination.

The selection is based on the academic achievement test (to be conducted in the form of an interview in English). Admission will be based on the overall evaluation of the cover letter, the transcript issued by the applicants last school and other submitted documents. The interview will be performed using internet communication between Ibaraki University and the applicants home university.
