PATHOGENIC GRAM NEGATIVE COCCI AND BACILLI MODULE DESCRIPTION This module form the core of medical microbiology which involves a study of the common pathogenic micro- organisms involved in clinical cases. This module helps students to acquire thorough understanding of the etiology, clinical features, lab diagnosis, pathogenesis, epidemiology, isolation and identification of pathogenic micro organisms. Treatment and control of wide range of infectious diseases, using antimicrobials are studied in detail.

*13 weeks of teaching with 2 weeks of Assessments and one study week = 16 weeks.

LEARNING & TEACHING APPROACHES .Lectures (PowerPoint Presentations sent via email prior to scheduled class) . Group Discussions/Presentations- to encourage student centered learning approach. Students are placed in groups and are assigned different topics to explore. The students within the group are given sections of the subject matter to probe and are meant to present to the entire class to teach the topic (this learning method is supervised by the lecturer with specific goals and time constraints

ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES Students will be assesses upon their performance in the following three categories: 1. Progress Tests-215% Units (1-4) . 7.5% Units (5-9) .. 7.5% 2. Assaignment(s) and Group Presentations 10% ____________________________________________________________________ COUSE WORK (CW) 25% 3. Final Theory Exam30% FINAL EXAMINATIONS (FE) 30% NOTEWORTHY POINTS 1. Module Weightings are CW (25%): FE (30%). 2. For the most part, this module and the practical module MET 2018 are designed to compliment each other. 3. Students who are successful in this module must pass the overall module with a score of at least 50%. Hence a student will only be deemed successful in this module if a grade of > 50 is obtained. 4. Failure to obtain a passing grade (>%) for this module will be reflected as a failure of entire module. 5. Failure of the module makes the student eligible for a redo at the next available sitting (Semester 1 of the subsequent Academic Year).
