Concluding questions 1. For an object moving in a circle, what is the relationship between the mass of an object and the centripetal force acting on it? As the mass of the stopper increases, the amount of centrpetal force applied to he object also increases. 2. By referencing both the graph and the centripetal force equation, explain why you think so. When the mass of the ball was 0.055 kg, the amount of centripetal force applied was 2.49 N. When the mass of the ball was 0.44 kg, the centripetal force was 1.99 N, this pattern continues when the mass is 0.011 kg and the centripetal force is 0.50N. So, the the smaller the mass of the stopper there is less force applied to the string. 3. For an object moving in a circle, what is the relationship between the radius of a circle and the centripetal force acting on it? As the radius of the circle increases, the amount of centripetal force decreases. 4. By referencing both the graph and the centripetal force equation, explain why you think so. The radius of the circle at first is 0.30m while the centripetal force was 0.83N; and the next radius is 0.40m, while the centripetal force is 0.62N. This pattern continues till the last on when the radius is 0.70m with the centripetal force of 0.35 N. So, the pattern of the centripetal force decreasing, as the radius increases- is constant within the result of the experiment. 5. With the centripetal force equation in mind, for an object moving in a circle, what type of relationship do you think exists between the speed (velocity) of the object and the centripetal force acting on it? The speed of the object stays constant, while the centripetal force result increases (velocity constant) or decreases (mass costant). 6. By referencing the centripetal force equation, explain why you think so. The equation is Fc=mv^2/r. When the mass is 0.011 kg, the velocity stays 4.75m/s, while the Fc decreases. It starts from 0.83N, 0.62N, to 0.35N. When the radius is 0.50m, the velocity stays 4.76m/s, while the Fc increases. It starts from 0.50N, 1.00N, to 2.49N. So, the centripetal force decreases for the constant mass and increases for the constant radius. 7. If the objects speed (velocity) while moving in a circle were the independent variable, and the centripetal force acting on it the dependent variable, what shape do you think the graph of centripetal force vs. speed would be? (What type of graph would your plotted data show?) The plotted data would show a graph with a horizontal line parallel to the x-axis.
