Natural frequency vibrating conveyors

Description and fonctionment The natural frequency vibrating conveyor consists of a trough mounted on an elastic element and driven by an electric motor via an elastic connecting rod, which causes sinusoidal mechanical vibration.

The functioning is based on obtaining a common frequency between the elastic system and the drive unit. The used system relies on the energy conservation theorem. If an elastic element, supporting a certain mass, is pressed or stretched with a certain force, it absorbs and supplies the same energy. Though the number of oscillations will be the same with the same force. The drive unit is formed by a vibrator whose eccentric defines the whole oscillation amplitude. The transmission between the motor and the vibrator axle is made through a belt. When changing the pulleys diameters the driving frequency is syntonized with the system's natural frequency. The elastic system is composed by a range of springs that hold the conveying trough. Helicoidal springs -made of special tempering steel and shoot peening treated- are normally used as elastic elements. The drive unit is composed by a crankshaft equipped by one or more elastic connecting rods, driven by an electric motor through trapezoidal belts. The whole system can be installed either on an isolated reaction mass, supported by a concrete block or anchored to the floor incorporating a structure able to absorb the transmitted dynamic efforts, in order to reduce them.

When starting up, the drive unit gradually increases its speed until reaching the rated frequency thanks to the elastic connecting rod. The drive unit amplitude remains constant. However, the trough begins to vibrate at a constant frequency and the amplitude increases until it reaches its rated displacement (I). At the stop, the phenomenon is reversed. The connecting rod maintains the same amplitude whilst the frequency diminishes. The amplitude of the trough however decreases while the frequency remains constant (II).

The power requirement to maintain a natural frequency vibrating conveyor is extremely low since the elastic elements themselves act as accumulators of energy. The energy supplied by the electric motor is only the energy required to replace losses caused by the friction. The conveying t r o u g h s or channels can be produced in various shapes, allowing dust-tight or open elements, adapted to the installation requirements. In some specific applications, clutch sections can be eventually installed, acting as lung, keeping the product on the trough. Besides of this, the trays can be equipped with different elements in order to separate or classify the product to be handled, or even to cool (by injecting air or circulating water) or heat (through infrared radiation or electric resitance).

Energy produced by the elastic element

The natural frequency vibrating conveyors are especially used for big lengths, reaching up to 30 meters with one vibrating group. They solve very different problems, offering elegant and simple solutions. The production is remarkably improved, thanks to their important flows, their long life, their high reliability and their low energy consumption. Their rough design assures a continuous service, free of troubles, even in the most exigent conditions, with a high efficiency and a minimum maintenance.

FL light serie The FL serie vibrating conveyors are of simple construction since they consist of a sheet-metal trough mounted on a mild steel fabricated base on which several resonant units are incorporated, the drive unit being centrally mounted. These machines are used to convey light materials, from a small flow up to a maximum flow of about 15 metric tons per hour. Their application range is very diverse, as they are used for conveying chemical products, cement, refractory material plants or certain shavings from machine tools.

FX Middle serie The FX serie has been designed for higher requirements than the FL serie, conveying up to 40 kg pieces. The applications are similar to the FL serie, being able to convey heavier prodcuts and higher flows.

FN Heavy-duty serie FN serie conveyors are especially apt for heavy-duty work, under very extreme conditions such as abrasion, shock or high charges. These conveyors are of rugged design, giving trouble-free service, even under the direst conditions, furnishing high capacities and virtually maintenance free operation. Its ruggedness enables it to transport materials of large size up to pieces of several hundred of kilograms. Its range of application is very diverse: quarries, foundries, steel mills, mines When conveying, other operations can be carried outdone: separation, distribution, heating One of the most usual operations is in foundries, to transport red-hot castings, and the separation of sand during conveying. It can convey material at a very high temperature, for which purpose special troughs are built, supported on the main frame by springs, which absorb the trough deformations, thus avoiding damage to the main frame. The troughs can have very rugged grizzlies, bottom collectors, as well as discharge gates. Complete airtight, dust free installations are also manufactured.
