SAFETY RULES

Keep this handbook at hand for any further help. After the packaging has been removed, set all accessories in order so that they can be easily found. Check that the card or the unit is integral and shows no visible damage. Before connecting the equipment to the power supply, be sure that the power supply wires are properly connected to the power supply. This equipment must be employed only for the use it has been conceived, i.e. as educational equipment, and must be used under the direct supervision of expert personnel. Any other use is not proper and therefore dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for eventual damages due to inappropriate, wrong or unreasonable uses.

PRECAUTIONS MFI-U/EV When the version MFI-U/EV (USB port connection) is used, before carrying out the connection between the unit and the USB port, be sure that the software Visual Designer is in execution; before disconnecting the unit from the USB port, be sure to exit the software Visual Designer.

1. INTRODUCTION

1. INTRODUCTION

INDUSTRIAL INTERFACE UNIT The industrial interface unit enables to transform any Personal Computer into an equipment of industrial kind for applications of data acquisition, analysis, monitoring and control. The obtained industrial system becomes an ideal unit for data acquisition of general use, tests, measurements and for the transmission of commands to external systems (control and supervision applications). The interfacing to the Personal Computer enables the development of exercises for data acquisition, supervision and process control. Depending on the characteristics of the control software of the industrial interface, you can make the supervision of the inputs and outputs of the modules MPT/EV and, in case of process control, only the inputs coming from transducers and the outputs toward the actuators can be employed to carry out a PID process control with algorithm provided directly by the software. The closed loop control chain present in the modules MPT/EV with speed and position, flow and level, luminosity, temperature and pressure process control enables the study of the typical problems of automatic controls, such as the stability, the response speed, the search for the best setting of the PID controller in line with the modern industrial applications. The control software of the industrial interface make it possible to facilitate the analysis made directly on the modules with the use of virtual instruments.

APPENDIX A. EXAMPLES OF APLLICATIONS

A1. EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION #1 Acquisition and display of the input signal ANALOG IN0. Connect the unit MFI-U to the computer via the USB cable. Purpose of the exercise is to display the value, expressed in C, of the input voltage on the ANALOG IN0. The phases to be carried out to proceed are the following: - signal acquisition from the MFI-U (the input analog signal to the MFIU is transmitted to the software as whole number); - conversion of the value from whole number to 0-10V; - conversion of the value from 0-10V to C; - display of the obtained value. The development of an application requires the use of the VISUAL DESIGNER - Diagram packet for the generation of application programs. Once the Diagram development ambient is entered, carry out the following phases: 1) Select Blocks, IO, GpADP Device 2) Select Blocks, Convert, Type conversion 3) Specify that the concerned parameter must be float kind:

EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION #2 Setting the fan speed and transmission to an analog output channel. Connect the unit MFI-U to the computer through the USB cable. The purpose of the exercise is to set the value, expressed in volt, of a fan speed and to transmit it to the ANALOG OUT0. The phases to be carried out to proceed are the following: - setting the fan speed value from the keyboard - displaying the set value on a proper graph - transmitting the set value to the MFI-U. The development of an application requires the use of the VISUAL DESIGNER - Diagram packet for the generation of application programs. Once the Diagram development ambient is entered, carry out the following phases: 1) Select Blocks, Userlntf, Slider

APPENDIX A. Example of application #2

In order to complete the exercise you can display the fan speed in rpm. On this purpose, transform the data from volt into rpm linking the icon related to the Slider to a proper function mx+b and then linking this to the icon Digital Meter. N.B.: Obviously in order to make the program transmit the speed values to the fan, the Trainer FCBA/EV must be switched on and connected via USB cable to the remote computer; besides the manual switch related to the speed control of the fan must be set to PC.
