------------------------------------------- Important Printing Information --------------------------------------------When printing set scaling to none or 100% in your print properties, so the pages print "actual size". A 1 (2.5 cm) test square is included with the pattern pieces. Click here for print troubleshooting. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Approximate Finished Dimensions: 7 high x 10.5 wide x 2.5 deep (18cm x 27cm x 6.5cm) Seam Allowance: Use 3/8" unless otherwise specified. The edge of the presser foot* can also be used if your foot is between 1/4"-3/8". It is an easy to follow & accurate guide. Pattern pieces include allowance. Cut on Fold: Some pattern pieces need to be placed on a fold for cutting. Pieces are marked indicating where to place on fold. Recommended Fabrics: flap/lining - medium weight quilting cotton, clutch body - canvas, home dec, or other utility fabrics. Apply fusible interfacing to the exterior clutch body B pieces if using lighter fabrics. Interfacing: The strap opening on the flap is easier to sew using sew-in interfacing on the flap pieces, but it can be done with fusible. Additional Padding for Flap: If you'd like to add an additional layer of padding to the flap, see these instructions. Supplies: 1/4 yard fabric for exterior flap & strap (FQ ok) 1/4 yard fabric for clutch body (standard 1/4 yard cut) 1/2 yard lining fabric 1 yard of 22" wide sew-in interfacing 1/4 yard 22" wide fusible interfacing 1/4 yard interlining - cotton batting, bamboo batting, fleece, etc. (1) 1" button for flap & (2) 3/4" buttons for sides (optional) 1.5" of 5/8" wide VELCRO fabric marking pen or chalk ruler

---------------------------1. Cut Pieces ---------------------------Note: Piece F is a template only. No fabric pieces are cut for piece F. Exterior Flap & Strap Fabric (1) A - flap (2) C - strap (1) E - strap opening facing Exterior Body Fabric (2) B - clutch body Lining Fabric (1) A - flap (2) B - clutch body (1) D - pocket (1) E - strap opening facing Sew-In Interfacing (2) A - flap (2) B - clutch body Fusible Interfacing (1) D - pocket (only 1/2 of pocket is interfaced, so the piece does not need to be cut on a fold) (2) C - strap Interlining (2) B - clutch body (1) piece about 10" wide x 2.5" high (25cm x 6.5cm) ---------------------------2. Interface/Interline ---------------------------Note: Pattern pieces B & C include trimming guidelines. The trimmed areas do not need to be perfect--just cut away a piece the general size indicated. a) Fold (1) interfacing C piece in half from side to side, and then fold again in half from bottom to top. b) Clip the one corner that is not on a fold, cutting through all four layers, and removing 0.5"x 0.5" (13mm x 13mm) of interfacing. c) Fold the (2) interlining B pieces in half from side to side and clip the following from both pieces: Bottom Corners: 2" x 2" (5cm x 5cm) Top Corners - 0.75" x 0.75" (2cm x 2cm) Bottom Center - 1.25" w x 0.75" h (3.5cm x 2cm)

d) Apply fusible interfacing pieces to the WRONG side of one half of lining D, and both C pieces. e) Place sew-in interfacing pieces on WRONG sides of the corresponding lining & flap piece A, and the (2) lining B pieces. Pin in place, if desired. f) Apply interlining B pieces to the WRONG side of the corresponding (2) exterior B pieces. Pin in place, if desired.

---------------------------3. Strap ---------------------------Note for Directional Prints: Follow instructions provided in steps a) & e) regarding which way print should be facing during these steps. a) Center one half of the VELCRO on RIGHT side of (1) C piece, so upper edge of the VELCRO is 1" (2.5cm) below the top of C. Directional Prints: print should be straight up & down (NOT upside down). b) Sew the VELCRO to C. c) Center the remaining half of the VELCRO piece so the bottom of the piece is 5" (13cm) below the top of C. d) Sew the VELCRO to C. e) Place the (2) C pieces RIGHT sides together and pin in place. Directional Prints: When C pieces are RIGHT sides together, prints are going in opposite directions. f) Sew around the sides and top of the strap using a 1/4" allowance. Note: Top is the end with VELCRO piece 1" below edge.

g) Clip the top corners. h) Press around stitching to shrink & set thread. i) j) Turn strap RIGHT side out through the open end. Push seams & corners neatly, and then press around outside edges.

g) Quilt bottom in any pattern you desire, moving strap out of the way when necessary. The example is quilted following the edge of the presser foot between each row of stitching. h) Mark fold lines at 1.25" (3.5cm) on each side of the bottom seam on both sides of attached B pieces. i) j) Fold the B pieces along the bottom seam so they are WRONG sides together. At the fold marks, fold the fabric back on each side, so B pieces are now RIGHT sides together.

k) Match up the fold marks on each side of B and pin in place. Bottom seam is now sandwiched between the B pieces, & facing toward the top of the clutch. l) Pin side seams in place.

m) Beginning from the bottom & sewing to the top, sew both side seams. n) Clip extra fabric from bottom corners. o) Press side seams, and then press the seams open flat at the top on both sides. p) Turn clutch body RIGHT side out & push corners out neatly.

---------------------------7. Attach Flap ---------------------------IMPORTANT: To determine which side is the back, pull the strap to the side where the VELCRO is face up. This is the back side of the clutch. a) Place completed flap on the back side of the clutch (see note above), so the exterior fabric side of the flap is RIGHT sides together with the exterior fabric of the clutch body. b) Pin flap in place. c) Baste flap to exterior clutch body using a 1/4" allowance. ---------------------------8. Pocket ---------------------------a) Fold D in half, RIGHT sides together, matching up the shorter edges. Since it is on the inside, it doesn't need to look perfect. f) Mark fold lines 1.25" (3.5cm) above the bottom seam on each side of both B pieces.

g) Fold the B pieces WRONG sides together along the bottom seam. h) Fold each side back at the fold marks. The bottom seam is now sandwiched between the B pieces facing upward toward the top of the clutch body. i) j) Pin the side seams. Sew both side seams, leaving a 4" opening for turning the clutch RIGHT side out along one side. Again, it is best to sew the seam from the bottom corner to the top.

k) Clip extra fabric from sides at bottom. l) Press side seams, and then press the seams open flat at the top on both sides.

Attach Lining ---------------------------a) Place the exterior clutch body INSIDE the lining clutch body, so the fabrics are RIGHT sides together, and the flap & pocket are on the same side. Note: Flap can't be seen in photo, because it is sandwiched between the lining & exterior fabric. Do NOT pull the flap out over the top. b) Match up top edges and pin in place. c) Sew around top. ---------------------------11. Finishing ---------------------------a) Turn clutch RIGHT side out through opening. b) Slip stitch, or machine sew, the opening closed. c) Tuck lining down inside & pin around top. d) Topstitch at 1/4" around upper edge of clutch body. e) Sew buttons to flap & bottom corners, if desired.
