I Do Input (1-2 Key teaching points): (4 min) Check for Understanding: (Inquiry based lesson) Teacher will recap and connect yesterdays lesson and talk quickly recap the definition of theme they cam up with. Teacher will discuss with the students that being able to determine theme of a text Theme is one of the more difficult elements of a story to identify. A theme is a storys message. It is what the author of a piece of text wants you to remember most. The theme of a fable is its moral. The theme of a parable is its teaching. The theme of a piece of fiction is its view about life and how people behave. Students will listen to background essay 30 second think time What theme/s are presented in the BG essay? Brainstorm a list of themes present What is the evidence to support your answer Table Collaboration Share out Students will discuss & listen

SWBAT: Compare an original text to written theme to determine if it accurately captures the intended message [2.8.04] Inquiry-based exploration!!!!

We Do Guided Practice: Check for Understanding: Now we are going to practice ways of identifying or determining the theme in our text. You will listen carefully and think about what you think the theme or themes of the background essay are. Teacher will read the background essay aloud (1min) I want you to think about what you think the theme is? What is the evidence supporting your idea?
