Fold it on the diagonal as shown in the dash line below. Crease well.

Origami Square Base Method 2 Step 2: Now fold the paper into two on the dash line as shown. Crease well.

Origami Square Base Method 2 Step 3: Bring the top flap over to the right and open the paper slightly. We'll now make a squash fold by...squashing down the paper!

Origami Square Base Method 2 Step 4: FLIP paper over.

Origami Square Base Method 2 Step 5: Now bring the flap from right to left. Open up the flap and make a squash fold.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 1: Start with a 6 inch x 6 inch (15cm x 15cm) square origami paper, color side down. Fold paper in half on the horizontal diagonal axis. Crease well.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 2: Fold both corners to the top.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 3: Unfold the right side.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 4: Fold the right side to meet the crease.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 5: Now fold the right side over the crease.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 6: Fold the left side so that the edges line up.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 7: Fold the left side over to the right.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 8: Make a fold as shown below. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 9: Now we're going to tuck the tips into the pocket.

And this completes one unit.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 10: Repeat Steps 1 to 9 and make a total of 5 units.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 11: To assemble the units, place some glue on 2 of the units and glue them together.

Origami Kusudama Morning Dew Step 12: Repeat Step 11 and glue all 5 units together to form a lovely kusudama flower! Doesn't it look like a star anise?

You can make 12 of these kusudama flowers and glue them together to make a kusudama ball.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 1: Start by folding the origami square base with the color on the inside. This is a commonly used base in origami. The square base video and link are below.

You should have the following to start with.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 2: Fold both the right and left sides to meet in the center. Make a horizontal valley fold as well. Crease well and unfold.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 3: Flip paper over. Repeat the 3 folds on this side. Crease well and unfold.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 4: Now completely unfold the paper.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 5: Recrease paper to form a waterballoon base. Then proceed to collapse paper into a waterbomb base.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 6: Fold the right upper layer over to the left.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 7: Recrease the indicated lines into valley and mountain folds as shown below.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 8: Make the diagonal fold shown below. As you make the fold, move point A over to point B.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 9: We're going to repeat Steps 7 and 8 on this layer as well. First recrease the folds.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 10: Make the diagonal fold and move point C over to point D.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 11: We've to recrease some folds again.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 12: Make the 2 diagonal folds shown below. As you do so, point F will move upwards and to the left.

E-F is now a straight diagonal line.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 13: Flip paper over.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 14: Recrease the folds one more time.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 15: Now make the diagonal fold. As you do so, move point H over to point G.

Move both point H and point I over to point G.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 16: We've completed one unit. Make another unit so that we can form an 8-petal flower. You can form a 4-petal flower with one unit. Here's the top view.

Here's the bottom view.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 17: Once you've made 2 units, add some adhesive in the center and glue the 2 units together. We used a paper clip to hold the 2 units together while the adhesive dries.

Origami 2-Unit Flower Step 18: Once the adhesive has dried, you can proceed to form the petals. It's really easy. Just pry the paper open and pull down the tips.

Repeat for all the other 7 petals and your origami 2-unit flower is complete!

Origami Waterbomb Base Step 1: Start with an origami paper color side up. Make a valley fold from left to right (or right to left). Crease the fold well and unfold the paper.

Origami Waterbomb Base Step 2: Now make another valley fold, this time from bottom to top along the dash line as shown. Crease the fold well and unfold the paper.

Origami Waterbomb Base Step 3: Flip the paper over.

Origami Waterbomb Base Step 4: Now make a valley fold along the diagonal line as shown, crease well and unfold paper.

Origami Waterbomb Base Step 5: Now make a valley fold along the other diagonal, crease well and unfold paper.

Origami Waterbomb Base Step 6: OK, time to actually put the base together. If you've creased the paper well, then the paper should come together like magic. If not, you'll understand why creasing well is so important in origami. Start pushing the paper from both sides as shown by the arrows.

Origami Waterbomb Base Step 7: As you push the sides in, the background triangle should form. Hold it down as you continue to bring both sides together. Once the sides meet in the center, your base is already half done. Push the paper down to form the triangle and you're done!

The waterbomb base is complete!

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 1: Start by folding a waterbomb base. This is a commonly used base in origami and we've created a separate page of instructions for it. You should have the following to start with.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 2: Fold the top layer from the right to left. By doing so, you now have 3 layers on the left and one on the right.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 3: As mentioned earlier, you now have 3 layers on the left and one on the right. From now onwards, we'll be making a series of folds that will be repeated for each of the 3 layers on the left. We won't be doing anything to the layer on the right. Fold the top layer on the left to meet the center crease. Crease well and unfold.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 4: Pry open the top layer on the left and bring it to the center and press it flat, making a squash fold.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 5: Fold the left half over to the right.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 6: Repeat Steps 3 to 5 for the other 2 layers on the left.

When completed, your paper should now look like this.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 7: Move the layers back to the left.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 8: We're now going to start another series of steps that will need to repeated for each of the 3 layers on the left. Make a diagonal fold on the top left layer.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 9: Move the top left layer from the left to right.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 10: Fold the upper left layer from the left to right.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 11: Make a diagonal fold as shown below.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 12: Move the upper layer from the right to left.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 13: Fold up the bottom tip.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 14: Fold the left half over to the right. This completes the series of steps for the first layer on the left.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 15: Repeat Steps 8 to 14 on the other 2 layers on the left. When completed your paper will now look like this.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 16: Here comes a very interesting step....Unfold your paper! Yes, that is not a mistake!

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 17: Push down the paper in the center to invert it.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 18: We're now going to fold the paper back up.

We're going to use the existing folds as is. So if it is a mountain fold, it will stay as a mountain fold. And if it is a valley fold, it will stay as a valley fold. The paper should move easily into position. Once again, the steps will have to be repeated 3 times, one for each layer.

Starting with the first layer, see the valley folds A-C and A-D? Move them towards each other so that they sit right under the center line A-B.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 19: Now fold and tuck B-E and B-F under the center line A-B as well. Remember, we're not making any new creases, just using the existing ones.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 20: Fold down the top tip. This completes the series of steps for the first layer.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 21: Repeat Step 18 to 20 for the other 2 layers. Here's the first and second layer completed.

When all 3 layers are completed, you've then completed the steps for one petal.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 22: Repeat Steps 1 to 21 and make a total of 5 units.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 23: Bring 2 units together and glue them together where indicated.

Origami Kusudama Butterfly Step 24: Repeat Step 23 for the other 3 units.

Here's the completed origami kusudama butterfly! You can make a total of 12 of these flowers and glue them together to make 1 kusudama ball.
