GUIDE TO ONLINE ENROLMENT This document provides a brief guide to enrolment.

Checklist for completing Enrolment Read information on the enrolment and finance web pages via above link Complete online enrolment task (registration, fee payment and Confirmation of Programme of study) Where applicable, select your optional modules if you have not already done so (please note some schools may wish you to obtain academic advice before selecting optional modules and this should be detailed in your school enrolment information on the above web page) Complete and return Health Questionnaire (New students only) Complete and return Special Provision in Exams form (New students only, if applicable) Collect Cardiff University Student Card (New students only) Attend school enrolment/induction event (as detailed in your school enrolment information on the above web page) What is online enrolment? All students are required to complete the online enrolment task at the start of each academic session. Enrolment is the formal process of becoming a student of the University and when enrolling online you will be required to:

Agree to be a student of the University for the whole, or part of, an academic year/session. Confirm your agreement to abide by the Universitys rules and regulations and to become liable for fee payment. Confirm that you consent to the University processing the information acquired by it in accordance with the Universitys Data Protection Statement. Confirm you have read and understood the visa rules and responsibilities that are required to comply with whilst studying at Cardiff University (international students) Check and update personal information held by the University on your student record. Pay, or make an arrangement to pay, your tuition fees or provide sponsorship details (where relevant) Confirm your programme of study and, where applicable, select your optional modules if you have not already done so (please note some schools may wish you to obtain academic advice before selecting optional modules and this should be detailed in your school enrolment information)

How to register online Prior to starting the registration process you will need; your Cardiff University username and password, your contact details and your payment details (bank account, credit/debit card, sponsorship details). You can access the online enrolment task via SIMS online (http://sims.cardiff.ac.uk) or through http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/welcometocardiff using any computer with internet access: home, work, public library or internet caf. (your internet browser should be Internet Explorer 5.0 or above, Firefox or Apache). The online enrolment task should take you no longer than 10-15 minutes to complete. Instructions You will need to click on the SIMS: On-line login link (on the bottom left of the screen) and then enter your Cardiff University network username and password, (if you are a new student to Cardiff University you will also be asked to enter your Student Number and Date of Birth as a further security check). You will then be presented with the student information screen where you need to click on the link Begin Enrolment.

You will be guided through a series of web pages which will enable you to check information held by the University about you, and update information where required. Your information will be saved as you complete each page, this means that you will not be able to go back and make changes once you have completed each page so please read and check the information carefully. There are points in the online enrolment task where you can exit and return to at a later date. Please note the enrolment task will only be available to you for a limited time, and therefore you are advised to complete your enrolment as soon as possible. Once you have completed enrolment you will see a Confirmation of Student Enrolment screen and a copy of this will be sent to your email account within 24 hours. You may wish to print this out as confirmation you have completed online enrolment. Opening hours are Monday-Friday 09.00-17.00. Alternatively, there are a number of supported enrolment venues which will be staffed to assist those students who could not resolve their queries on the above, full details of these venues and additional help is available via the enrolment web pages. Cardiff University Student Card (New entrants) The Cardiff University Student Card functions as your; identity card, Library card, NUS card and also allows access to certain University buildings. Your card will be produced and distributed at venues within the University. You must have completed online enrolment to collect your card (proof of identity will be required when collecting the card). Failure to collect your card will result in a delay to the payment of your student loan (if applicable) and for International students may result in you being reported to the United Kingdom Border Agency (UKBA) as non attendance. Full details can be obtained from the enrolment web pages. Returning students should already have a Cardiff University Student Card. School Enrolment You must attend any enrolment/induction events which have been scheduled by your School. You can check the enrolment web pages for details or contact your School. Students in Humanities and Social Studies Schools (HUMSS) It is essential that first year students in these schools (English, Communication and Philosophy, European Studies, History, Archaeology and Religious Studies, Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies, Music and Welsh) should refer to the HUMSS web pages at http://www.cf.ac.uk/humss/enrolmentinfo/index.html . Accessing your Cardiff University email account Full details on how to access your Cardiff University email account can be found at http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/insrv/accessemail.html. If you leave the University If you wish to withdraw from the University for any reason you must provide notification immediately. You will remain liable for tuition fees until your withdrawal is confirmed to the Registry. It is not possible to backdate a withdrawal. You will be able to use the online student withdrawal facility via http://sims.cardiff.ac.uk
