HUDSON CROSSING PARK INVITES YOU TO THE RIBBON-CUTTING Ceremony for the new Riverwalk Sensory Trail and the adjacent Alfred Z. Solomon Kayak Launch on Saturday, June 15th beginning at 2:00pm. Hudson Crossing Park, located just off Route 4 north of Schuylerville, will add these two amenities to improve both accessibility and enjoyment for visitors. A 1540 stone dust path along the shore of the Hudson River, the Riverwalk Sensory Trail provides a multi-sensory, immersive, riparian path for visitors to follow as they navigate through the park. Special features are included to enhance the experience for those with mobility and visual impairments, making the trail a unique asset for the greater Hudson Valley community: corduroy wooden strips cross the smooth, wide surface indicating points of interest; hand-cranked listening stations mounted along the trail interpreting the stories of the land and water; life-size sculptures of birds mounted at railing height providing touch-based experiences will soon be added. These enhancements will help to amplify the sights, sounds, touch, and understanding of the surrounding natural area. The Alfred Z. Solomon Kayak Launch, located just south of the Sensory Trail, provides an ideal destination to launch or land your canoe or kayak. Selected with the advisement of local paddlers, the new launch site provides a safe and appealing entry point for excursions along the Hudson, and is easily accessible using a paved path from a roadside drop-off point. These two exciting additions to Hudson Crossing Park support its mission of offering a bi-county public, educational, and recreational destination. Join the park in celebrating the opening of these new attractions, and thanking the many contributors who brought these projects to fruition. This weeks poll question:

The US Supreme Court ruled last week that law enforcement officers may take a sample of your DNA upon your arrest. THURMAN STATION ASSOCIATION, INC., HOSTS THE FIRST OF TWO SHOWCASE EVENTS TO SPOTLIGHT BUSINESSES, ORGANIZATIONS AND ARTISANS OF THE TOWNS OF STONY CREEK, WARRENSBURG AND THURMAN, in an effort to feature the three towns offerings as a combined attraction, and to draw attention to the potential of the train as a way of travel out of area and a new market for those conducting business or hosting events here. This first event, June 15, beginning at 11 a.m. and running until 1:30 p.m., has been dubbed the Showcase Preview Day, as 20 of the approximately 40 exhibitors registered for the second event will provide what organizers term an enticing Showcase sample to entertain visitors and lure them back on July 27. On Saturday, both travelers and local folks are invited to stop in at Thurman Station to enjoy The String Dusters, with Bill Healy, Bert Wilson, Corey Hough and Nick Barr, playing American acoustic music that blends country, bluegrass, and folk styles. Tent-covered exhibitors will offer talks, demonstrations, free samples, activities for adults and children, and information about organizations and events in the three town area. There will be tickets for a timber frame garden shed drawing, train whistles, face painting, a six- foot interactive river model, history displays, intricate scale and half-scale rustic furniture, original paintings of natural scenery, locally produced cheeses and maple products, signed books, dowsing lessons, educational owl talks, wooden home accessories, tales of the old river drives and spinners turning fibers into yarn. The station event welcomes visitors on their way to Thurman Old Home Days at Veterans Memorial Field, where more music and activities begin in early afternoon and climax with a fireworks display after the evening concert. The June exhibitors include Warren County Historical Society, Graveled Surfaces Restoration, Martins Lumber, Adirondack Rustic Miniatures, Hidden Hollow Maple Farm, Adirondack Gold Maple Farm, Adirondack Spectral Investigations, Warren County Soil and Water Conservation District, John Thurman Historical Society, Wolf Pond Stables, Moon Shadow Lodge, Adirondack Attitudes, Parasearch, Inc., Nancy Kimball, Hickory Ski Center, Fiction Among Friends, Milda Burns, hosts Thurman Station Association, and The Serendipity Spinners. Most will return on July 27, to be joined by about twenty others. Find Thurman Station at 1883 Stony Creek Road (4.5 miles from Warrensburg Health Center via route 418). Information at www.ThurmanStationShowcase.com or 518-6239305.# # #This event is made possible, in part, by funds from the New York State Council on the Arts Decentralization Program with supplemental funds from the Rivendell Foundation administered locally by the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council.
