TheraTogs, designed and developed by Beverly Cusick, PT, M.S., are a revolutionary, dynamic, orthotic undergarment and strapping system that gives users with sensorimotor impairment an exciting new treatment modality that sends the therapists hands home in support of the therapy program between sessions. It is designed to wrap the upper and lower torso in a Velcro-sensitive strapping field that allows the clinician to anchor upper and lower torso together to address mobility and stability issues that require muscle re-education across body regions. TheraTogs are made of various patented composite fabrics consisting of nylon and Spandex, with a rubber-free and Latex-free foam backing. The breathable, handwashable fabric, worn directly on the skin, is out of sight under the users regular clothes. When snugly applied, it comfortably adheres to the skin surface without slipping, which allows proper strapping applications to effectively influence the users movement skill and precision, joint stability, postural alignment, and gait. It can be worn throughout the day as the user has full toilet access without taking the garment off. The usefulness of the TheraTogs system is ideal for individuals with developmental disabilities, and clients in rehabilitation following brain injury, stroke, orthopedic surgery, or neurosurgery. In addition, TheraTogs have been shown to be effective in addressing stability, alignment, and movement issues related to the following: ataxia, hypotonia, athetosis, weakness, intoed or out-toed gait, joint deviations and/or laxity, postural mal-alignment, muscle recruitment/ balance problems, and sensory integration issues. A TheraTogs system consists of a sleeveless Tank Top, Hipster, 2 sets of Split Straps, 2 large and 2 small Limb Cuffs, an assortment of elasticized straps of different shapes and stiffness, strapping tabs, a marker set to assure correct garment closure and strap placement each time, as well as printed instructions and 55-minute introductory how-to video for donning, fitting, and strapping applications.
