What do we mean by communication? Communication is the art of successfully sharing meaningful information with people by means of an interchange of ideas.

It is a two-way process of reaching mutual understanding, in which participants not only exchange information but also create and share meaning. Communication may come in various forms it may be verbally or non-verbally. Furthermore, all forms of communication require a sender, a message, and an intended receiver since it is a process where ideas are being channeled by a sender to a receiver. It has been said that we cannot avoid not to communicate since everything we say or do or everything we dont say or dont do sends a message to others (John Woods). How do we form good communication? For us to establish good communication, we must acquire three essential skills: expressive skills, listening skills and skills for managing the overall process of communication. Expressive skills are required to convey message to others through words, facial expressions and body language. It is important in this skill that a person must be confident to be able to express the message that he wants to impart to the listeners. Next, we have listening skill. This skill is used to obtain messages or information from others. These help to clearly understand what a person feels and thinks about you or understand the other person closely. Finally, we have the skill for managing the overall process of communication which can help us to recognize the required information and develop a strong hold on the existing rules of communication and interaction. It is important for the listeners to understand what a person is saying in order to have an effective communication. What are the constituents of good communication? Good communication is composed of the sender, the receiver, the message, the channel, and the feedback. -The sender plays the specific role of initiating communication. To communicate effectively, the sender must use effective verbal as well as nonverbal techniques. -The receiver means the party to whom the sender transmits the message. A receiver can be one person or an entire audience of people. -The message consists of the information that the sender is trying to impart to the listeners. It is the most crucial element of good communication since it must be composed accurately for the listeners to perceive it correctly. -The channel is the medium of how the message is being transmitted. Examples of channels are books, radio, and television. -The last element of effective communication, feedback, describes the receiver's response or reaction to the sender's message. Feedback helps the sender to determine how the receiver interpreted the message and how it can be improved. Ensure that the information is presented Clear clearly Be concise, do not lose the message by being Concise long winded Be accurate, avoid giving misleading Correct information Complete Give all the information and not just part of it Courteous Be polite and non-threatening, avoid conflict Constructive Be positive, avoid being critical and negative Articulation is simply understandable speech. You can achieve good articulation in two ways. First, enunciate; speak clearly. Second, pronunciate; accent syllables and reproduce consonant and vowel sound in conformity with the accepted standard--the dictionary. Grammar concerns the correct usage of the spoken or written word. As a speaker, you should neither talk at a slow, plodding rate that puts your listeners to sleep nor rattle off words so rapidly that they run together. As a rule, speak fast enough to be interesting yet slow enough to be understood. Your voice becomes more interesting and words more meaningful when you use changes in pitch. Forceful speech combines the volume or carrying power of the voice with the demonstrated vitality, strength, and conviction of the speaker; it includes the proper placement of stress or emphasis on key words and phrases.
