Situation: As the General Manager of an advertising agency you are aware of the fact that, regularly, you should

draw your employees attention upon the laws regulating advertising. Task: Write a 200-250 words report in which you inform the staff working for you upon the rules regulating advertising nationally and internationally. After mentioning the most important rules, remind them about the consequences of creating deceptive ads, and finally give them some recommendations as how to avoiding the risks of breaking the law.

From: Dora Vasilache , General Manager To: Kyle Smith, Human Resources Director Subject: Laws regulating advertising Date: June 3, 2012 Introduction The aim of this report is to remind the employees the laws regulating advertising referring to the laws and rules defining the ways in which products can be advertised. Findings The key findings are outlined below. Firstly , you should all know that In the United Kingdom, advertising content regulation is governed by the Advertising Standards Authority whereas in the UK most forms of outdoor advertising such as the display of billboards is regulated by the UK Town and County Planning system. Currently the display of an advertisement without consent from the Planning Authority is a criminal offence liable to a fine of 2500 per offence. Secondly, no advertisement can be aimed at children under the age of twelve, and there can be no advertisements five minutes before or after a childrens program is aired. Thirdly, in the United Kingdom advertising of tobacco on television, billboards or at sporting events is banned. Similarly alcohol advertisers are not allowed to discuss in a campaign the relative benefits of drinking, in most instances therefore choosing to focus around the brand image and associative benefits instead of those aligned with consumption. And the last but not the least, advertising laws are aimed at protecting consumers by requiring advertisers to be truthful about their products and to be able to substantiate their claims. All businesses must comply with advertising and marketing laws, and failure to do so could result in costly lawsuits and civil penalties.

Conclusion It is clear that, you all have to respect the laws regulating advertising. I insist to draw my attention, if one of the above rules is violated. Recommendations I strongly recommended that before you start an advertising campaign to understand some basic rules: Advertising must be truthful and non-deceptive Advertisers must have evidence to back up their claims Advertisements cannot be unfair
