Installation
We recommend you complete the installation in the following order. If youre installing a stand-alone copy you will not need the floating license server in Step 1. 1 2 3 Install Embarcadero License Server Install ER/Studio Install ER/Studio Repository

Upgrading to ER/Studio 7.x

You must install Repository 4.0 to work with ER/Studio 7.x. Note the following: You may install ER/Studio 7.x and an earlier ER/Studio version on the same workstation. Any *.dm1 files you use from the previous version will be copied and converted to 7.x format when you open them for the first time. Previous versions of ER/Studio will not read 7.x files. The Diagram Upgrade can be time consuming and memory intensive. The number and size of ER/Studio diagrams managed in the upgraded repository will dictate how long the upgrade process takes. Reference Models are not supported in ER/Studio 7.x. If you decide to uninstall a previous version, you will be given the option of saving your existing license. During installation you will have the option of restoring it or using the evaluation license.

ER/Studio Enterprise and ER/Studio Standard

ER/Studio Enterprise is ER/Studio and Repository together. ER/Studio Standard means ER/Studio licensed separately from Repository, or without Repository. Enterprise customers will have the ER/Studio 7.x and Repository 4.0 tools suite licensed together. You may license it on a particular workstation or have a number of floating licenses (concurrent licenses) managed by the Embarcadero License Server.

Upgrading to ER/Studio 7.0 Standard (workstation license)

A workstation license uses a license.txt with an encoded MAC address of a network card on your system. You will need a new license once you have upgraded.

To upgrade: 1 2 Ensure you have backed up all your 6.6.1 (or earlier version) dm1 files. You do not need to uninstall an earlier version until you are happy with the new version. Start the ER/Studio 7.0 Installation file, available from: http://www.embarcadero.com/downloads/downloaderstudioent.jsp and http://www.embarcadero.com/downloads/upgrade.html These installations have a two-week trial period. The initial 7.0 installation will NOT upgrade your previous license. If you require a login for the upgrade site, please e-mail your details to: uk.key@embarcadero.com (for Europe, Middle-East and Africa) or key@embarcadero.com (for the Americas and Australasia). Install Type: select Workstation Installation. License File: select No. Do NOT enter anything relating to your previous license. After installation, open each one of your old *.dm1 files in ER/Studio 7.0. It automatically upgrades diagrams to version 7.0. Save the files again. Before the two-week trial period expires, run through the License Wizard. In ER/Studio: Choose Help > About ER/Studio ... select License ... Fill in the License wizard information as it applies to you. If you are in the Americas, please select the key@embarcadero.com e-mail address, for Europe, Middle-East and Africa, select uk.key@embarcadero.com. Alternatively, you can save it to a file and mail it from another machine. Please select the address carefully as selecting the wrong one might delay your license. When your license.txt file arrives, save it in the ER/Studio 7.0 installation directory. Please also make a backup copy of thelicense.txt file to store elsewhere should you need to reinstall. 7 Uninstall the previous version of ER/Studio if you no longer need it. Be sure to backup any custom SQL files or other work files in the old ER/Studio directory because they will be removed by the uninstaller.

Upgrading to ER/Studio 7.0 Enterprise (workstation license)

A workstation license uses a license.txt with an encoded MAC address of a network card on your system. You will need a new license once you have upgraded. The Repository installation is NOT licensed separately as it was before. ER/Studio holds the valid Repository client connection (where applicable). There is no separate Repository Licensing Application. To upgrade: 1 2 Check in all your diagrams and objects. As a precaution, rename all local copies of repository diagrams in the active file directory. Attempting to check in a previous-version file with the same name as an existing file will corrupt your current file. To do this, in ER/Studio, Select: Repository > Options > Active File Directory. Make a backup of the current repository database. Make sure no one is logged into the repository Start the Repository Installation file on the existing Repository machine. Be sure to install Repository over the previous Repository directories.

Licensing
You can install ER/Studio on a single machine with one license, or on a network with a floating license from the Embarcadero License Server. ER/Studio can be installed on the same machine as the license file. NOTE: ER/Studio will require you to identify a license server when it starts. The first time, you may need to specify the license servers network name or IP address and port number (port 4880 by default).

Once the license server installation is complete, multiple users can run ER/Studio concurrently up to the number of licenses purchased. Embarcadero License Server The Embarcadero License Server is a stand-alone floating license server for Embarcadero applications. Licenses can be managed from a single console where an administrator can see how many licenses are available and if they are in use. Specific users can be added or removed and licenses can be reallocated as needed. As with any license server, it must be installed on a computer in your network before you can run a client application. See the Licensing information at: http://www.embarcadero.com/products/erstudio/erdocs.html

ER/Studio Installation Wizard

The Installation Wizard is a multi-panel wizard that installs all corresponding files on your machine. The wizard display varies depending on the license type you choose. NOTE: If you have an existing license, you will be given the option of saving it as a backup file during installation. You will have the option of restoring it (for workstation installation) or using the evaluation license before installation completes.

Install E/R Studio Repository: Overview

ER/Studio Repository is a 32-bit application that runs in a Microsoft Windows environment. It includes three main components: 1 2 3 ER/Studio Client Workstation ER/Studio Repository Server ER/Studio Repository Database NOTE: If you are upgrading an existing Repository Installation, see the Table of Contents for your installation type.

In addition to requiring at least one copy of ER/Studio, the Repository has specific server, and database requirements that you must meet before proceeding with the installation. If you do not meet these requirements, the install may fail, or you may not be able to connect to the Repository and use it. We recommend that you review all the requirements before proceeding with the ER/Studio Repository Installation. To install and run the ER/Studio Repository application, you must have the following: 1 2 3 Local Administrator Privileges. The TCP protocol needs to be up and running on the both the Repository database and server. The Server must have the correct RDBMS Client Utility Software.

ER/Studio Repository Technical Requirements

The ER/Studio Repository Server is the only interface to the Repository Database. It is responsible for creating the SQL code necessary to query, retrieve, insert, update, and delete diagram data in the database. If you delete a diagram in Repository, the file itself remains on disk. The Server has specific hardware and software requirements outlined below that optimize its performance: Hardware and Operating System Requirements Software Requirements Hardware and Operating System Requirements The ER/Studio Repository Server has the following hardware and operating system requirements. Adhering to these requirements optimizes ER/Studio Repositorys performance. NOTE: The hardware requirements are based on an ER/Studio Repository with five to 10 users. If you have more than 10 users, you may want to augment the hardware to address the increased number of ER/Studio Repository Server transactions necessitated by the increased number of users. If you install the ER/Studio Repository Server and the ER/Studio Repository database on the same machine, you should consider augmenting the hardware requirements described below.

NOTE:

IBM DB2 UDB

The IBM DB2 UDB installation is a three-panel wizard that guides you through creating an IBM DB2 repository for storing data. The installation adds Tables, Indexes, Views, and Stored Procedures. Important Notes The machine where your DB2 instance resides must have the C++ compiler for the Stored Procedures to work correctly. The IBM DB2 UDB 7.x Server needs to have a User Temporary Tablespace with at least a 4Kb page size to create the temporary tables. We suggest using a System Managed table because those can grow automatically. TIP: You can use either DBArtisan to create a User Temporary Tablespace.

After creating the User Temporary Tablespace, the DB2 database needs some tuning needs so that it does not run out of memory and log space. For more information see: IBM DB2 UDB User Temp Table Tuning the IBM DB2 UDB Database

IBM DB2 UDB User Temp Table

The DB2 UDB database needs to have a User Temporary Tablespace with at least a 4Kb page size in order to create the temporary tables. You can create one using the tool of your choice, or you can use the following SQL: TIP: TIP: NOTE: We suggest using a System Managed one because those can grow automatically. You can use either DBArtisan to create a User Temporary Tablespace. Before running this script, you must modify the path for the container.

CREATE USER TEMPORARY TABLESPACE REPOTEMP PAGESIZE 4096 MANAGED BY SYSTEM USING('D:\DB2\NODE0000\SQL00002\SQLT0004.0') // here user needs to specify the physical location of the table space EXTENTSIZE 32 PREFETCHSIZE 16 BUFFERPOOL IBMDEFAULTBP OVERHEAD 24.10 TRANSFERRATE 0.90 ;

Tuning the IBM DB2 UDB Database

After you create your User Temporary Tablespaces, you need to do some tuning to the DB2 database so that it does not run out of memory and log space. Here are the optimizations: 1 Increase Application Heap Size: The default is 128x4Kb. We recommend you change them both to 2048x4Kb. TIP: You can increase the application heap size by right-clicking on the database in Control Center and selecting Configure. Switch to Performance and modify the values for Application Heap Size (applheapsz) and Application Control Heap Size (appctlheapsz).

Increase log file space: The default log size is 250x4kb (1 MG).

We recommend that you increase this to 10,000x4Kb (or 40 MG). In addition, we recommend that you change the number of primary and secondary log files from 3 and 2 to 10 and 10. This gives a total of 400 MG of primary log space, which should be sufficient for medium to large diagrams. TIP: You can increase these using the Logs tab of the Database Configuration dialog in Control Center.
