Chronology of the Tournament: Wednesday - a two and half hour bus journey.......students in high spirits - a brilliant welcoming assembly at which each school (Catlins, Waiau, Roxburgh, Twizel, Lawrence and Maniototo) performed a dance routine - a good icebreaker putting everyone on an equal footing. - three hours of full on sports: Touch, Basketball, Squash and Indoor bowls. Merran Casse was unbeaten in Squash, taking 1st place. Eden Wilson and Ellen McCraw bowled to glory beating a South Island Champion on the way. We had high hopes in Basketball but could not get traction at all. - 4.30pm saw the end of the day with students heading off with billets. Thursday - a full on day with Curling, Netball, Ultimate Frisbee, IQ Challenge, Futsal and Rugby. At the Naseby Curling Rink our students did brilliantly with our top team placing third (behind the two Maniototo teams). Our Futsal did likewise dipping out in the semi finals (a penatly shoot out). IQ Challenge is something we pride ourselves on - but pride comes before a fall, beaten into second place 95 to 93 by Twizel. At Ultimate Frisbee our team got better and better. Our rugby boys combined with Roxburgh to win the day. In Netball we turned-a-corner beating nemesis Catlins in the semis. The final went to Roxburgh but our team can be proud of their result. Thursday night, a social was held, an outside observer would swear that the students come from one, not six schools as everyone joined together to have a great time. Friday -everyone was tired but lifted to put in a great final effort in volleyball, mixed netball and mixed hockey. Whilst not coming out as winners each of these teams meet with success through the excellent attitude and commitment to Fair Play. At 12.30pm we assembled to say our farewells and Kelly Tweed spoke beautifully on behalf of our school, thanking the hosts and wishing all students well. We were thrilled to have Ellen McCraw and JJ Houpapa-Barrett named as Most Valuable Players, an honour thoroughly deserved. We were equally delighted to have: Kelly Tweed, Brooke Cameron, Merran Casse, Kylie Lyders, Abby Cameron and Nadia Lyders named in the SAS team for nationals at Whangaeri - Congratulations. It was a feel-good tournament, friendships made and renewed, fierce competition balanced with fair play, six schools combining as one, hosted fabulously well by Maniototo Area School. Kind Regards

Winter Snow Stories

The cat swished past me like batman through the sky. Suddenly there was an enormous crash. It was the cat. It crashed into the pot. Aaron Hooray Im sledding down the hill in the snow. I went straight past my snowman. I had a scarf and a hat on. I was going so fast they blew off. It was so funny. I almost fell off my sled. It was so scary because it felt like I was going to crash. Arnika Dad said we should go outside to build a snow castle. Then Dad stood up but I didnt know why he stood. Then he told me. His fingers were cold. So he went inside to warm them up. Deija-Lee Ya-hoo shouted Toby as he ran into Mum and Dads room. Its snowing. I ran out to the lounge. Then I saw a blanket of snow. We were desperate to go outside. Dad came with us as we ran round the back. Mum was in Tobys room and we threw a snowball at the window at her. We made a snowman. Dad went in the house. I made a humungous snowball. Toby and I tugged and pulled with all our strength. Toby was being annoying. But we did it. We went sledging and Toby did a backwards flip. Anna. Humungous white flakes flutter down from the sky. After waiting for a whole morning I was finally allowed out. I pounced out of the house and stumbled down the hill. The snow was much depper than I expected. I was intimidated. Bryce

Yippee no school yesterday. I made a snowman. It had tow black stones on his head for eyes. A carrot for his nose. And his mouth was made out of a large stone. Oakley

Yippee. Hooray. Yahoo. No school. I went on my boogie board down the hill and Abby didnt need to give me a push because I pushed it myself. Abby and I built a snowman it was not very big though. But Abby and Dad built an enormous snowman. Mum and Tom stayed inside the whole day because it was very cold. I only made one snow angel. I put my arms and legs out. I put them in and out to make the angel shape. Isla Flying down the hill as fast as the boogie board can take us. I swished past Mac. Mac had to give me a boost so I could go fast down the hill. I felt scared because I almost crashed into the prickly tree. And it went faster than a cheetah. Mia

Yippee. Snow is here. We do not have to go to school. Tyrone threw a humungous bit of snow at my head. BRRRRRR. It splashed on my back. I ran back to our brick wall. Adam was there. I said move. Get out of my way! I stayed there for not very long because Adam came back. He pushed me away because he was trying to get in the base. Te Aroha

Ye ha! I am winning the race. I am flying through the air like Superman through the snow. I had to get grip up the steep hill. Blake had to make me a track. It had heaps of jumps. I fell off. Splat! I went down the hill with Mum screaming. It was funny. Regan
