again...is this error related in anyway to this problem..i formatted the laptop in hopes of correcting this error using the recovery cds..but it
doesnt seem to have helped...and now since i got this error its been difficult for me to connect to the internet and the chat clients..actually
i cant..i am at uni but my room mate can connect to everything..any idea y this is happening..anything else i need to include in my post ?

the error is as i stated before n happens at random usually once i log on to windows, i am running on windows XP home edition..my
MP3 players
laptops a ACER travelmate series 380..i use the chat clients alot so they r usually loaded when the error..is there any connection? and is
this the thing thats causing problems when i try to connect to the net and the chat clients...i use Norton anti 2005,adaware se,registry
PC hardware mechanic could this be a virus ive done searches wit all those SW nothings come up...hope this info helps..

security OK, now it's more clear that it happens on random while working with some instant messaging applications. These random errors are
difficult to troubleshoot, However, we can use the following directions:
See all forums
1. When the error occurs, isn't there a Click Here at the bottom of the message box ? If so, click it and find out what's the text
displayed. This might give a clue.

2. Another approach it's to isolate the culprit. Launch msconfig, click the Services Tab, click Hide All Microsoft Services. Unselect all
the items there (these are third party ones). Click the Apply button, Restart.

Note

Before going on-line after restart, make sure that you enable the built in I. C. Firewall. Run again a messaging application. If it works,
then you'll have to select one by one the third party services (in msconfig) until you'll reach again the error.

I keep getting this message everytime I start my computer. It tells me that I had an error a couple of days ago or whenever and it
needs to send it to Microsoft. What do I do to stop this and what is is caused from?

I get mine when I start up my computer but it just simply tells me there is a problem with the generic host process for win 32 and
it needs to close. Then it asks me if I want to send an error report. I have no idea how to fix this. Someone help, please.

1. Error Reporting which is enabled by default displays an error dialog box prompting the user to indicate whether or not they
want to report the problem. When choosing to report the problem, technical information about the problem is collected and then
sent to Microsoft over the Internet. If a report is rendered and if a similar problem has been reported by other people and more
information is available, a link to that information will be provided the user. Turning it ON or turning it OFF is the user's call. For
assistance and resolution, we would need to know WHAT cause(s) is/are reported.

2. When a system error occurs, the computer displays a blue screen containing error codes and all computer operations stop.
When an illegal operation or other error occurs in a program, that program stops working. System and program errors may be
transmitted to Microsoft which allows them to track and address operating system, Windows component, and program errors.
Error Reporting configuration is outlined in, [Q310414]:

a. Enable or disable
b. Enable for the operating system
c. Specify the program for which a report is generated
d. Remove programs from the list
e. Send an error report to Microsoft

Also for what it is worth:

1. The article [Q307973] suggests that users configure the actions that Windows takes when a severe error (also called a fatal
system error, or Stop error) occurs. Also, please read the article, "A Description of the Safe Mode Boot Options in Windows XP
(Q315222)," for accessing a system that will not boot normally.

2. The article [Q308427] states that an "event" is any significant occurrence in the system or in a program that requires users to
be notified or an entry be added to one of three logs that can help identify and diagnose the source of current system problems,
or help predict potential system problems.

3. The article [Q314084] describes how to gather more information about an error message using Pstat.exe, a Resource Kit
utility run from the command line that gives a picture of the processes and drivers that are currently running.

4. Access the TechNet "Windows XP Events and Errors" page, type the Source (for example, Print) and/or the Event code (for
example, 20) into the ID field, then either click the Go button or simply press ENTER. -- the two most important items of
information concerning an Event. When a reference is rendered, simply following the prompts for additonal information/help.
You may also find the site information "How do I view the error messages registered in Event Log?" helpful in understanding how
and what to do.

Howdy all--

I am kinda new to all this Windows stuff (I used to be well versed in DOS then left the country around 99', was in a jungle, came back and
now I'm outside looking in).

Anyhow, who cares about all THAT... I just put on ZoneAlarm Pro 4 and kept being asked whether or not to give access to this Generic
Host Process for Win32 Services. Well my browser (explorer 6.0) would not do ANYTHING so I gave it permission to access.

Not even 7 seconds later my Avast! Virus Protection program has alarms going off telling me not to panic but it found this file:
MediaAccess.exe which is apparently a virus

Here are the details:

corrupt file: MediaAccess.exe

Original location: C:\Program Files\Media Access
Virus: Win32:Medac [Adw]

Well I'm not sure what all that means except that that file was in a folder called Program Files for some reason and where it came from I
have absolutely no idea.

Now I have had problems for quite a while with the system going unstable and so forth so I am kind of anxious to see if this may have
been the culprit and now Avast! cured it.

Anyway, here are the basics of my system:

OS: Microsoft Windows XP

Home Edition
Version 2002
SP1

Computer: Intel Pentium III processor

804 MHz
256 MB RAM

I'm anxious to learn, I hope I am not annoying in my ignorance.

Well, My computer is not smoking yet but it moves about as fast as a glacier flow (pre global warming).

Anyhow, since my last report, that same virus:Win32:Medac [Adw]

has affected 4 files:
A0011508.exe
autosupdate.exe
dd[1].exe
MediaAccess.exe

I did a search for svchost.exe (the file involved with the Generic Host Process thing) and zipped it and sent it to malaware@zonelabs
for them to tell me what the heck it is.

I also emailed my IP to ask them for help.

Sometimes my pages take over 90sec to load and often times the animation does not work when going to the next page (waving flag,
hourglass, etc).

On top of that there is constant traffic going accross the phone line according to my zonealarm monitor.

My next step is to contact Avast! but I am really at a loss.

Can anyone give me a clue as to what the heck is going on.

I may have to access this site from another computer before long- I just hope she holds together!

First thing get yourself a copy of AdAware PE or spybot Search and destroy

install it

update it and run it

make sure you let it remove all found objects.

Next go to

goto 1 of the fallowing

HTTP://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan
or
HTTP://housecall.trendmicro.com

fallow the onscreen instructions and run an online antivirus. (I understand you are running avast as resident protection)

I recomend the panda sight for you as you are on dialup and it will allow you to disconect from the Inet during the scan you will need to
reconect before loading any aditional screens.

next you should upgrade to SP2 for windows From windows update. (in IE click tools then windows update and fallow instructiuons)
