Parameter
Feeder loss (dB)
Description
This is the signal attenuation between the ODU and the Antenna. For units with external antenna, nter the calculated loss at each side of the radio link according to the specific cable and length used in the deployment.
Range
0-30 in increments of 0.5 dB.
Click Calculate on the calculators main window. Alternatively, select Link > Calculate from the menu bar. The results of the calculation according to the specified parameters are listed in table format, as follows:
Figure 3: Calculation Results 3 The results table displays for each bit transfer rate of the radio link, the worst, mean, and optimal distances (in kilometers) between the antennas in uplink (Site 1 2) and in downlink (Site 2 1). The bitrates depend on the selected bandwidth (5 MHz, 10 MHz, 20 MHz, 40 MHz). You can export the results to a PDF file, or print it directly from the calculator.
To export the results to a PDF file: 1 Click Export on the calculators main window, or select File > Export from the menu bar. 2 3 4 Browse to the folder where you want the report saved. Change the name of the file, as necessary. Click Save. A PDF file is generated in the selected folder. The report displays all the parameters entered for the calculation, as well as the results table.

To print the results directly from the calculator: 1 Click Print on the calculators main window, or select File > Print from the menu bar. 2 Select a connected printer and click Print. The results are printed in report format. The report displays all the parameters entered for the calculation, as well as the results table.

To calculate the Fresnel zone: 1 After calculating the distances between the antennas (see Section 3), select Link > Path Visualizer from the menu bar. The Path Visualizer window opens.
Figure 4: Path Visualizer Window 2 Initially, the graph displays the Fresnel zone for the selected frequency, with the default distance between the antennas and with the default height of the antennas at each site. The Path visualizer includes the following fields:

Enter the distance between the antennas. Use the calculated table in the main window to select the optimal distance.
Enter the height above sea level at which the antenna is installed at each site.
NOTE The graph display, as well as the scale of the X and Y axes change according to the values entered. The greater the distance between the antennas, the greater the earths curvature (displayed in blue)
Keep the red ellipse, which indicates the area between the antennas with line of sight, above the blue line, indicating the earth's curve. The values that best achieve this, are the optimal values for installing the antennas.
