DOES PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AFFECT THE RATE OF HEARTBEAT?

Fran Buinac 2MMA

HYPOTHESIS: I believe that the rate of heartbeat will increase with the exercise (physical activity). As we know heart is like a pump that moves blood throughout our body and as we do more hard work it starts to pump faster. We also know that muscles need oxygen and nutrients that come with blood, and if we do some work muscles work too and they need more and more oxygen and nutrients, and as they work they need it faster then usual. Here comes the heart because heart pumps the blood so in that case it would need to pump faster. So it would be very logical that the blood would move faster, which would then increase the rate of heartbeat. MATERIALS: For my experiment the only material is a timer and two people; one that is doing a specific exercise, and the other one who is measuring the time and the pulse. PROCEDURE: 1) First step is to decide who will do the squats and who will measure the time and the pulse of the person who is doing the squats. 2) After that the person who is doing the squats is sitting still on his chair and the other person measures his pulse 2 times for 1 minute. 3) Now the person who is doing the squats will do 10 squats. Right after he is done with the squats the person who is measuring will measure his pulse again 2 times for 1 minute. 4) The person that is doing the squats will now do 30 squats. The procedure is the same as is in the third step. After the squats the persons pulse is measured again.

These are the results of our experiment in a form of a table and a graph. We can clearly see from the table that physical activity indeed increases heart beat. CONCLUSION: The conclusion is that physical activity increases the rate of heart beat. We can clearly see the change in all groups for 10 and 30 squats for example. In Group 4 pulse measured in rested state is 50, and after 30 squats its 98. We also have a graph and a table which prove that. The final conclusion is, the more you exercise your heart beat will be at higher frequency.
