We the parishioners of Saint Michael the Archangel, through leadership and strong traditions are faithful disciples of the teachings of Jesus Christ and His Catholic Church. We commit ourselves to be generous stewards of our faith, our parish, and our community. We strive to involve all members to be united in one parish family for the salvation of all. Notes from the Pastor: We are proud and honored by the triumph of two of our parishioners, one in Girard and one in Arma in sports: Drew Davied from Girard is the state champion in High Jump and Kelly Bogina from Arma is state champion in 2 mile run. I was also told that Audrey and Hayden Bauer made it as state qualifiers in the 4 x 800 relay and Hayden Bauers team made it to the podium. Congratulations to all of them and to their parents and families! Thank you Lord for these blessings! It was a blessing to be there at the installation mass of Archbishop Jackels in Dubuque, Iowa last Thursday, May 30th. It was attended by about 24 bishops and some archbishops with Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano, the papal nuncio to the US and the representative of the Pope at the installation, and about 150 priests and deacons, Archbishop Jackels mom, two of his siblings, uncles and aunts, and some of his cousins, and about 2000 representatives of the lay faithful of the archdiocese. What a wonderful site to behold and a worshipping congregation to be with. The mass with the installation ceremony lasted for two hours. After the entrance procession the nuncio gave the message to the congregation and then read the letter of appointment from Pope Francis of Bishop Jackels, called the Apostolic Mandate. Then, the letter was shown to the members of the diocesan consulters which consist of priests, then to the congregation. This was followed by the ceremony of the Installation of the Presiders Chair - the symbol of the teaching authority of the church and the new archbishops responsibility to teach his flock! The last part of the ceremony was the welcoming of the new archbishop with representatives from the different sectors of the church. Also was included among the welcoming party were representatives from the state and city government. Then the mass proceeds as usual starting with the liturgy of the word. Archbishop Jackels delivered the homily and he went straight to the point of the need of more vocations to the priesthood and religious life: seminarians and men and women religious are like incense at mass and garlic in cooking, the more the better. Everybody was laughing at this part. He added by encouraging the lay faithful to fulfill their role in praying and serving the community. Three groups of choir sang at mass: their regular adult choir, the middle catholic school boys and girls choir, and the Burmese flute choir band. At the Next Sunday(06/09/13) 10:00 AM J. Hey, G. end of the mass, we got a little chance to greet Archbishop Jackels! Then off we go, drove back to our home in Southeast Kansas. Along the way we meet a powerful thunderstorm but we continued our drive, then about midnight, we were pulled over by a state trooper, not for speeding, but we were told the car swerve into the lines several times. I dont know if its because the four of us were wearing our priest collar or the drivers explanation that he let us go without a ticket. I got home in the rectory about four in the morning and try to get some sleep. But now the challenge continues. Let us continue to pray for Bishop Jackels, and let us pray for our diocese. We might be without a bishop for a while. There are now nine dioceses throughout the US which is sede vacante (vacant seat=without a bishop). The diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut has been vacant since last May 16, 2012, followed by (in chronological order) Fort Worth, Texas; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; Marquette, Michigan; Passaic, New Jersey (Ruthenian); Portland, Maine; Rochester, New York; Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of St. Josaphat; Parma, OH; and finally Wichita, Kansas! For the time being, a diocesan administrator, selected by the presbyterate will manage the affairs of the diocese in a limited capacity. Please include this intention in your daily prayer. May God answer our plea! Prayer during the Time of the Vacant Episcopal See of the Diocese of Wichita in Kansas

That Man in You Friday mornings at 6am

O God, eternal Father, you always shepherd your flock with unfailing care. In your boundless love, bless and strengthen our diocesan administrator who is called to watch over our diocese as we await a new bishop. In your boundless love, swiftly grant a new pastor for your Church in the Diocese of Wichita one who will please you by his holiness and embrace the flock you entrust to him with fatherly love and compassion. May he be a faithful teacher of the gospel, a holy priest of sacred worship, and one who serves as he governs. In your boundless love, grant us grace to remain faithful throughout the months ahead; open our ears to discern your voice in those who lead us and give us steadfast hearts to pray without ceasing. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. This Sunday (this weekend) is the feast of Corpus Christi or the Body and Blood of Christ! We all know that the Eucharist is the center and summit of our Christian life. To mark the centrality of the Eucharist during the observance of the Year of Faith: a Global Hour of Eucharistic Adoration on the solemnity of Corpus Christi is scheduled at 5:00 pm at the Vatican. (Rome time). Since it is Sunday 10AM here in our time zone, we will be having our mass here in Girard by that time. So instead of having a Eucharistic Adoration, we will celebrate our 10AM Sunday Mass as usual and unite our hearts and intentions with the whole catholic world in worshipping the presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist and pray for unity and peace throughout the whole word, and the conversion of everyone to God! Our Eucharistic Adoration this Thursday in Arma and Friday in Girard will be offered for these intentions! God bless us a1l!

Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Only within the last century has man achieved the ability to transplant hearts. God has been in the business of transplanting new hearts since the beginning of creation! A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you. (Ezechiel) The question arises, Where does this new heart come from? There must be a benefactor. Someone must die so that another might live. Even before Our Lord came, and suffered and died, those who received new hearts did receive them from Him in Whose coming they believed. Gods reason for transplanting new hearts into His patients is that the old hearts so easily become diseased. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? (Jeremiah) The word, heart is used in the Bible many times. Jesus uses the word often in His teaching and it appears frequently among the psalms: Learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart, For where your treasure is, there also, will be your heart just to name a couple. June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. You could make a special effort to come to Mass this Friday and show your love and appreciation for the new heart which God gave you when you were baptized. (Inspiration from Fr. Reinkemeyer, 1974) Feast of Corpus Christi This weekends Masses celebrate the Eucharist as the very center of our faith. It is the Feast of the Body of Christ, a reminder to all of us of our intimate union with Jesus in His Mystical Body. We hear once again that the Church channels Christs life to us, and that the principal path to this divine life is the Holy Eucharist. Each celebration of the Mass offers us another opportunity to gratefully consider the great treasure we call the Most Holy Eucharist. Anytime that we come to Mass, are free of mortal sin, and attend the whole Mass, we may and we should receive Holy Communion. After all, Our Lord said, I go before you to prepare a place for you, and our entering upon that place depends on unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood, you shall not have life in you. This is an excellent time to resolve any problems that keep us from the Body of Christ in Holy Communion. If its your conscience, then go to Reconciliation (confession). If its the brief period of fasting before Communion that is the problem, then ask Our Lord for the courage to do that little bit of penance, with joy! According to Pope St. Pius X, Holy Communion is the shortest, and surest way to Heaven. If we hope to be with Him after death, be nourished by Him as each Mass and your union with Him in eternity will be more complete. Life is like a breath, here now, and soon, it is gone. We are all urged not to waste time or delay receiving Jesus. It is the heart and soul of Catholicism. Articles by Marcel Normand
