Chilled beams
Create a stable and comfortable environment by supplying draught free temperature control 75% of total cooling capacity handled by water Available with heating and cooling Low noise
Continuous improvement R&D focussed on reducing energy consumption Optimisation of Air Handling units to meet customer requirements
Chillers
Designed to minimise overall energy consumption Free cooling chillers significantly reduce energy consumption especially with chilled beam systems Provide reduced investment and running costs
To address the requirements of the EPBD directive, Flkt Woods has poured a lot of effort into creating the e3 Concept. Our solution is a broad approach leaving no stone unturned to achieve optimum results. High-performing components provide a good start, but it is by combining products into an integrated system, utilising smart control, that one can achieve the best energy solutions. The e3 logo is used to highlight products and systems that deliver savings on Energy, Economy and the Environment.

Flexible, comfortable and energy efcient climate for the modern ofce
In these more energy and indoor air quality conscious days, chilled beam systems have come the fore. Predominantly due to the energy benets over alternative systems such as fan coil units, the chilled beam system also provides an incredibly stable environment which adds to the occupants wellbeing and satisfaction. Flkt Woods have now moved this on a stage with the introduction of our new iQ Star range of chilled beams. These beams not only give you the indoor air quality but due to the addition of smart controls, the Stella and Astra are able to provide variable airow rates. This means that demand control ventilation has been added to an already energy efcient system providing the end user with additional energy savings. That, coupled with our ow pattern control and energy (comfort) control, leads to these beams offering you full exibility to adapt to any future changes in room layout.

The now dehumidied and cooled air continues to the sensible rotor, where heat from exhaust air is recovered and used to re-heat it. The air is supplied to the building, with controlled levels of both temperature and humidity. Note that the temperature exchange in the sensible rotor, where exhaust air is cooled, further improves the cooling recovery of exhaust air in the hygroscopic rotor!
1
When outdoor air is warmer than the exhaust airow there is a need for cooling. The hygroscopic rotor then reduces temperature of the incoming air. Simultaneously it transfers moisture from the inbound to the outbound air ows (in cases where absolute humidity is higher outdoors)
2
After passing through the hygroscopic rotor the air passes through the cooling coil, where the temperature is reduced further and moisture is condensated down to required levels. Since the air has already been cooled by the hygroscopic rotor, the demand for cooling is lowered. The saving can be up to 50% of the nominal required cooling effect, while at the same time the need for a following re-heating battery in most cases disappears.

Energy control
The new flexible nozzle arrangement guarantees high indoor air quality and energy efficiency. A quiet solution even when high air flow is needed.
Accessories
Flexibility is increased by the numerous accessories available for iQ Star. Not only is Stella available with any equipment you need, you also have the opportunity to customise its design.

As we understand, chilled beam systems create high quality indoor environments which are incredibly energy efcient. But because of the nature of the chilled beam system, it is possible for us to use more energy efcient components as part of the complete system. On the following pages you will see both our Twin Wheel Air Handling Units and our Free Cooling Chillers. Both of these components can offer signicant savings and can only be utilised to their full extent because of the nature of the chilled beam system.

Product Mix
The chart above shows energy comparisons between Chilled Beam and Fan Coil Unit systems with different options of AHU and Chiller. The Fan Coil Unit system does not have the free cooling option as they operate on lower chilled water temperatures. As you can see an energy reduction of approx 50% can be achieved by utilising a Chilled Beam System with Twin Wheel AHU and free Cooling System option.

Real saving = 191,160 for 11 the chiller or 231,160 for the cost of the free cooling element of the chiller. Total saving of 1360 tonnes of CO2 over 20 years (based on UK carbon outputs of 0.422 kg/kWh). Total CO2 without free cooling would be 3900 tonnes over 20 years.

The water returning from the system will be cooled in part or totally in the heat exchanger coils (additional to the standard condenser). While the outside air temperature falls, the cooling capacity recovered in theUnit Free-Cooling Side coils increases in inverse proportion up to a point that allows the 100% production of chilled 1 water2using only outside air and with System side completely idle compressors.
