Wagon POH

BOBRN
BOBR/BOBRN wagon
The Kumaramanglam Committee on wagon handling systems and terminal facilities had recommended the deployment of a dedicated fleet of hopper Wagons for the bulk transport of Coal on account of assurance of wagon availability, achieving substantial reduction in loading and unloading time and cheaper unloading terminals as also reduction in maintenance costs. With this end in view the bogie open bottom rapid discharge hopper wagon type BOBR (fig-I) has been designed by RDSO for the bulk movement of coal from the collieries to major users who are located within relatively shorter leads from the collieries The main feature of this hopper wagon is the automatic rapid discharge of coal with the help of electro-pneumatic operation of the bottom doors. With the opening of doors, almost the entire bottom of the wagon opens out facilitating quick and complete discharge. The wagon is fitted with an automatic door operating system which causes opening and closing of the doors with the help of compressed air supplied by the locomotive through the door operating pipe which runs along the entire rake. The air from the door-operating pipe is released to actuate the system when the pick-up shoes, provided on the sides of the wagon come into contact with the line side rail provided at the unloading terminals. During loading and unloading the train consisting of these wagons remains in motion at crawling speed.

Salient features of BOBR & BOBRN wagon:

Provided with Cast Steel Bogie type CASNUB-22W (M) in BOBR and CASNUB-22NLB in BOBRN, Provided with cartridge taper roller bearings. Provided with high tensile centre buffer coupler (Non-transition). Provided with bottom discharge doors having Double Link Mechanism operated by pneumatic systems. (Most important) Provided with graduated release air brake system with single pipe. Provided with Automatic Load Sensing Device. Provided with pull rod in BOBR and Slack Adjuster Type IRSA-600J (Jaw Type) in BOBRN.

: 3200 mm : 3450 mm : 23.17 tonnes : 22.1 tonnes : 88.40 tonnes

*These wagons are expected to run in close circuit initially on Hospet-Chennai section of Southern and South Central Railway.

WAGON SUPERSTRUCTURE
The wagon superstructure consists of the following sub- structures: Underframe Body sides Body Ends Side Doors

BOXNCR WAGON
SALIENT FEATURES

Bogie open wagon type BOXN CR is similar to BOXN wagon except the following: Barring rolled sections, the wagon body is manufactured from steel to IRSM M44 instead of steel to IS:2062 Fe41 OCuWA or IRSM-41. Crib angles side to ISA 50x50x6 is manuf3ctured from IRSM- 44 steel instead of IS:2062 Fe 410 CuWA steel. Sole bar is manufactured from IRSM-41 instead of lS:2062 FeCuWA steel. Other features like overall dimensions, bogie couplers and draft gear, brake gear, brake system, etc. are exactly same as BOXN wagon.

MAINTENANCE & REPAIR

Since BOXN CR wagon is similar to BOXN wagon, the maintenance schedule and repair procedure shall be similar to BOXN wagon. However, since the wagon body is made from IRSM-44 steel, the body panels. when corroded, shall be replaced with IRSM-44 steel panels only. The IRSM-44 steel panels/plates shall be cut either by shearing machine or by plasma cutting machine but not by oxy-cutting. The welding electrodes to be used for repairs are indicated below.
