This course provides attendees with an overall understanding of the latest scientic ndings and how to put that knowledge into action by implementing a Total Health approach in the practice.

Recent scientic literature suggests a strong relationship between oral disease and other systemic diseases and medical conditions. A new relationship between dentistry and medicine is now developing regarding patient care. As the oral systemic connection is more clearly understood, dentists will play a greater role in the overall health of their patients. Many times, the rst signs of unnatural systemic health conditions reveal themselves in changes within the oral cavity.

The purpose of this one-day course with hands-on workshops is to provide the attendee with an overall understanding of the latest scientic ndings, the individual areas of concern, the dentist/physician connection and the tools/procedures necessary for the dentist to provide a Total Health approach to their practice. At the end of this course, participants should be able to: Establish a Total Health approach within their practice Establish a communication and referral program with MDs Identify specic Total Health areas you wish to expand within your practice Utilize appropriate tools for screening and treatment

Dennis M. Abbott
Dennis M. Abbott, D.D.S. is the founder and CEO of Dental Oncology Professionals of North Texas, an oral medicine practice dedicated to meeting the unique dental and oral health needs of patients battling cancer. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Rice University in Houston, and is an honor graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Abbott studied immunology, microbiology, and oral medicine at the School of Dental Medicine, State University of New York at Bualo. In addition to private practice, he is a member of the dental oncology medical sta at Baylor Charles A. Sammons Cancer Center and Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.

Sandra McCakey
Sandra McCaskey combines her dental education and vast dental industry experience to provide a unique perspective on dentistry. Sandra holds a BA in Spanish from CSU Sacramento and a RDA License. She received her dental training from Western Career College, where she later instructed in the Vocational Dental Assisting Program. Sandras has worked in the dental eld for 15 years during which she was a chair-side RDA for both an orthodontist and a cosmetic dentist, a Treatment Coordinator in orthodontics, a Patient Education Consultant for ClearChoice Dental Implant Centers, and a Territory Sales Representative for Zila Dental. Sandra is currently a District Sales Manager for Sunstar Americas, innovators of the G.U.M. and Butler line of products, covering Dallas / Fort Worth and Oklahoma.

Mike Brewer
Mike is a Regional Preventive Specialist for 3M ESPE and has enjoyed a 43-year career involving prevention in the healthcare industry, medical as well as dental. He has played an active role in 3Ms school development programs and has lectured at the Chicago Mid-Winter Meeting, Mid- South Dental Congress, University of Tennessee, Louisiana State University, University of Mississippi, and University of Iowa Dental Hygiene Schools.
