Brewers of Romania Association has a new President

Bucharest, 27 February 2013: Andrew Highcock, President of Ursus Breweries, was appointed to be the new President of the Brewers of Romania Association, starting this month. Mr. Highcock is replacing Mr. Hezy Ovadia, President of URBB Tuborg Romania, who served in duty in the last two years. I am honored by the new position within the Brewers of Romania Association, an organization that during almost ten years of activity succeeded to represent an important local economic sector, as the common voice of the beer producers in carrying the dialogue with both the authorities and consumers. Our Association is a solid structure that we are proud of and the responsibility of this position we should all share. In this respect, I would like to thank Mr. Ovadia for the efforts to successfully complete major projects for the Association during his mandate, and to launch new ones to promote beer culture in Romania.", said Mr. Andrew Highcock, President of the Brewers of Romania. "Upon completion of my mandate I hand over to Mr. Highcock the leadership of the Association, wishing him success in carrying out all the activities. It will probably not be an easy mandate, given the context created by the recent increase in the excise duty on beer, but I am confident that together we will find the best ways to overcome this period. Moreover, with the reputation of a sector with 0 tax evasion, a real pride for the brewing industry, we will further support that the solution to increase budget revenues is in any case not raising taxes, but reduce tax evasion on the alcohol market." said Mr. Hezy Ovadia, President of URBB Tuborg Romania. Prior coming to Romania, Andrew Highcock was the CEO of Pivovary Topvar for two years, a local company part of the SABMiller group in Slovakia. Before being part of SABMiller, Andrew Highcock was the President and CEO for Canada and Southern Europe Maxxium Worldwide, international spirits company with a portfolio of brands that includes Absolut Vodka and Remy Martin. Previously he worked for Diageo in France, Britain and Central Europe, occupying various positions in the sales and marketing departments and general management. About the Brewers of Romania The Brewers of Romania Association was established in 2004, with the mission to promote and develop a responsible and strong beer industry in Romania. Driven by their ambition to ensure a healthy business environment in the national brewing industry, five of the largest players operating in Romania have become members of the Association: BERGENBIER, HEINEKEN Romnia, ROMAQUA GROUP, URSUS BREWERIES and UNITED ROMANIAN BREWERIES. Together, the

five brewing companies account for over 90% of the beer consumed in Romania. They were joined, starting 2011, by the most important producers of hops and malt, the raw materials needed for brewing beer: the ASSOCIATION OF HOPS PRODUCERS and SOUFFLET MALT ROMANIA, and starting this year the members include also CLINICA DE BERE (the Beer Clinic), a small brewery based in Timioara As of 2008, the organization is a member of the Brewers of Europe Association, considered the voice of the European brewing industry in the relation with the different international institutions and organizations. Established in 1958 in Brussels, the organization currently has 27 members and represents the interests of around 4,000 brewers in Europe. Moreover, the Brewers of Europe also represents and defends the interests of over 2 million people employed in beer manufacture and marketing.
