A. Author

Joseph Conrad was a Polish author who wrote in English after settling in England. He was granted British nationality in 1886, but always considered himself a Pole. He was born on December 3 1857. He was a great Novelist and a short story writer.

Conrad is regarded as one of the greatest novelists in English, although he did not speak the language fluently until he was in his twenties. He wrote stories and novels, often with a nautical setting, that depicts trials of the human spirit in the midst of an indifferent universe. He was a master prose stylist, who brought a distinctly non-English tragic sensibility into English literature.

Conrad drew on his native Poland's national experiences and on his personal experiences in the French and British merchant navies, to create short stories and novels that reflect aspects of a European-dominated world, while also plumbing the depths of the human soul. Appreciated early on by literary cognoscenti, his fiction and nonfiction have gained an almost prophetic cachet in the light of subsequent national and international disasters of the 20th and 21st centuries.

B. Valuing
The part of the story that struck me most is when Mr. Kurtz abuses the people in Africa. He uses this people to accomplish what is for his company. Mr. Kurtz treats the African people slaves because they were not civilized and dont have any education about business. Mr. Kurtz takes advantage of it because he knew that his job will be easier if the African people will be his followers and do all the things that we wants for himself. This should not be right because each person have the right be free in their life. Do want they want to do and not be a follower of any person in the world.

My favorite character is Marlow. He is one of the major charters in the story. He was the one who had an adventure to Africa to see new things. He is an explorer that wants to have an extreme adventure to learn more things about the world and change it to the better.

The setting of the story was in Africa. It was a peaceful place and tribes that has a good communication with each other. It was a place of uncivilized people because it was in the ancient times and that time the rich countries are the only civilized place because of the money they have. When Marlow came to Africa he met a man named Mr. Kurtz and saw that the people there were working for him the to the company where MR. Kurtz is working. The company called the criminals but they were slaves. Marlow went to Africa because he wants to explore it. When he was a boy his dream is to explore Africa because it was barely explore by any explorer.

Yes, I find the story difficult because the story is all about imperialism. The story was good and it has a wonderful story about a great adventure. I had a hard time to understand the story because it has a deep explanation in the book. It has many side lines in the story that made me confused and I had a hard time on understanding the story.

The insights/lessons I learned in the story is that we should treat other people equally and right because we dont have the right to give orders to other people. They have the right to be free because its their life. In life we should have a choice to make our life meaningfully. Lets be mindful in being a good person to others like what Marlow did in the story. Yes, I will recommend the book to others because it is a good novel. I know that the youth today wants an adventure stories so this book is the best for them. This book may guide them and became their basis in knowing the history of having an explorer. This encourage the youth to have their own adventure in their life and be happy in what they are doing in their life.
