SMARTconverter
Monorails look like trams, but they are based on a single rail or beam that is often built on stilts to expand the existing infrastructure, especially in megacities. For instance, the rubber wheel vehicles run on a concrete beam enclosed by the underfloor area of the vehicle itself. This design does not only provide stability for the monorails, but also space for the power electronics required for roadworthiness. The vehicle concept places the highest demands on the flexible integration of the auxiliary power converters. The converters transform the input voltage supplied by means of a contact rail at the side and provide the required energy. The air conditionings are often supplied by separate converters. This
also applies to the monorails of the Malaysian manufacturer Scomi Rail Berhad for the monorail project in Mumbai, India. The auxiliary power converters consisting of several modules are delivered by SMA Railway Technology GmbH. They are based on the proven MEE-NT technology, belong to the SMARTconverter product family and allow an easy and flexible integration.
Monorails manufacturing
As a result, currents of certain frequencies are suppressed by small input inductivities and a defined input impedance to the supply network is generated. Thus, the resonant switching inverter generates a medium-frequency alternating voltage that is transmitted via a medium-frequency transformer. There are two outputs: One is for the DC loads in the vehicle and charges the on-board batteries. The second output supplies the connected threephase inverter.
Moreover, a diagnostic system provides fault analysis. Thanks to their low weight and compact design, SMA auxiliary power converters are not only ideal for application in local traffic including metro vehicles, trams and monorails. Due to their modular design, they can also be delivered in underfloor containers, roof assem blies and open frame considering the respective customer-specific weight and space requirements.
Conclusion
The platform of the SMARTconverter for monorails offers ideal conditions for meeting the technical requirements. The modular power electronics are lightweight, compact and can be optimally integrated.
