Construction

Our product line includes binders to modify cement systems as well as emulsions for formulating building products and elastomeric coating compounds. Adhesives
Clariant is the perfect partner for the adhesives industry. Our Mowilith environmentally friendly waterbased emulsions comprises a wide range of products which offer high performance for all types of adhesives, such as wood glues, paper and packaging applications, as well as lamination and industrial adhesives. Adhesives made with Clariant Mowilith Emulsions are characterised by an excellent adhesion to a wide variety of substrates offering high strength after setting. Depending on the application, they may present good water resistance, or inversely, re-emulsification. For many requirements, waterbased wood glues, for instance, also need to form a waterproof film. This is where Mowilith as a one-pack or two-pack formulation can provide the answer and enable adhesives to meet the requirements of DIN EN 204 for D3 and D4. In the area of adhesives for the paper and packaging industry, waterbased emulsions are highly suitable for an extremely wide range of applications. Besides packaging manufacture and sealing, they are widely used in adhesives for book binding, for laminating printed sheets, winding paper tubes and various other applications in the flexible packaging and printing industry.

PAPER AND PACKAGING In the area of adhesives, waterbased emulsions are suitable for an extremely wide range of applications, like winding paper tubes, scholar glues and corrugated board. BOOK BINDING AND LAMINATION Apart from the manufacture and sealing of packaging, Mowilith Emulsions are used for book binding and applications in the lamination industry.

Textile, Leather and Paper

Clariant Emulsions perform important tasks in the textile, leather and paper industries. In textiles, for example, they guarantee wash fastness, modify the handle from soft to hard or give dimensional stability. In leather they help in the dye fixation and can be applied as a coating to increase properties like brightness, handle and flexibility. In paper they are present in the printing, coating, binding and lamination. Lets take a closer look at the textile industry. Garments require wash fastness and firm handling properties, dimensional stability or water resistance. Our emulsions are present in outdoor coatings, home textiles, vertical blinds, blackout , sports articles, protective clothing, work wear and all kinds of technical textiles. For the Denim coating, the use of Dispersions can modify the handle, the visual effects or increase the wash resistance. For the back coating of nonwoven carpets, tufted carpets and synthetic grass providing long term durability and protection. We have the right dispersion for the manufacturing of fashion garments, military and protective clothes or for the complete construction of sport shoes. Moving on to the leather industry, emulsions with different properties may be used in the manufacture of leather fiber according to where the end product will be used: insoles, ground contact soles, belts or bags. The uses of emulsions in the paper industry include coating for cartons and special papers, the finishing of filter papers and decorative, corrugated, wallpaper and packaging applications.

At the core of these initiatives is the development of enhanced safety and environmentally The Ultra-Low Formaldehyde Concept for textile emulsions has been developed to follow the ecological necessity to reduce Formaldehyde content, meeting the requirements of Oekotex , Euro Ecolabel and other related standards. Appretan E-Serie dispersions for textile, nonwovens and coatings fulfill the requirements of non-detectable free formaldehyde = < 20 ppm on the substrate according to Japanese Law 112. Together with our customers Clariant experts optimise processes with regards to water and energy consumption, waste and costs. All these efforts result in reliable, state-of-theart products and solutions. APEO (Alkyl Phenol Ethoxylates) and specially Nonyl Phenol ethoxylates are considered to be very toxic for aquatic life. In many countries these emulsifiers / surfactants are no longer allowed. In our portfolio you can find APEO-free dispersions. friendly products, such as all our waterbased Mowilith emulsions, free of plasticizers and solvents. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) could be hazardous and contribute to the depletion of the earths ozone layer (EU Directive 2004 / 42 / EC). Europe, EUA, Canada, Japan , Korea and Malaysia are countries with VOC regulations. One of the requirements for lowVOC paints is a very good film formation in paints without solvents or plasticizers even at low temperatures (e.g. +5 C). Clariant have developed a dispersion appropriate for low-VOC to meet the increasing demand for an ecologically responsible corporate commitment.
