It is practiced by qualified art therapists who work with children, young people, adults and the elderly.[2] Clients who can use art therapy may have a wide range of difficulties, disabilities or diagnoses. These include, for example, emotional, behavioral or mental health problems, learning or physical disabilities, life-limiting conditions, brain-injury or neurological conditions and physical illness. Art therapy may be provided for groups, or for individuals, depending on clients needs. It is not a recreational activity or an art lesson, alt hough the sessions can be enjoyable. Clients do not need to have any previous experience or expertise in art. Making objects out of modeling clays is a valuable tool for people to use in describing an event or expressing a feeling. Some people do not have the vocabulary to express themselves, and they feel pressured to answer questions that they do not understand. Drawing provides patients perspective with an experience. Artwork can provide information about the patients behavior and developmental maturity. Art is particularly useful In assessing a patients therapeutic needs. Purpose The purpose of art therapy is essentially one of healing. Art therapy can be successfully applied to clients with physical, mental or emotional problems, diseases and disorders. Any type of visual art and art medium can be employed within the therapeutic process, including painting, drawing, sculpting, and photography. Art therapy stands in contrast with other kinds of creative or expressive arts therapies that use dance, music or drama. Studies have demonstrated the efficacy of art therapy, as applied to clients
