    The Pentatonic (pente = 5) scale is perhaps the most widely used scale in the world and can be found in the
    folk traditions of China, India, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the American Indian. Many well known folk songs are
    formed from this scale, e.g. "Amazing Grace (see page 41), as well as many Negro spirituals, e.g. Swing Low,
    Sweet Chariot. A simple way to hear this scale is to play only the black keys of the piano keyboard notice
    how easy it is to sound Chinese using these notes. Classical composers such as Debussy and Ravel have also
    used the scale for its oriental effect. The pentatonic scale comes in two basic forms:

    2) The Minor Pentatonic (e.g. Magnificent Five, pg 30, ) consists of the same notes as the natural minor scale
    but leaves out the 2nd and 6th degrees. It is similar to the blues scale and is used greatly in Blues and Rock
    music (However, in American country music the major pentatonic is far more common).

    major scale but leaves out the 4th and 7th degrees (i.e. the notes shown in brackets, which should not be played).
